TroyBilt model 47266 chipper/shredder: I have an opportunity to buy one
little-used, at likely a very good price.

I think this is a "Super Tomahawk" model; it can chew up branches up to
4 inches diam.

Anyone have any good or bad experience with this model?

My friend Allen lost two knuckles worth of finger using one he had rented.

I like my Super Tomahawk, but am not sure if it is the model you quote.

However, be aware that TroyBilt has gone bankrupt and sold all assets,
including their name. MTD now owns the name, and told me they won't be
providing any parts for the Super Tomahawk. Parts will eventually be
needed, eg the chipper teeth.

Right. MTD didn't buy the CS line only the rototiller product line.

I have a Tomahawk and it'll probably be eBay for spare parts.

As to chewing up 4" branches; the chipper will maybe chip up to 3" and
that's only if the wood is straight. I don't like to feed anything
larger than 2" inch.

You'd be missing out. Some of the newer BS engines will outlast what
they're put on by orders of magnitude.

So what brand of engine are you in love with?

Same. Bigger than 2" is firewood. :) Also, it works pretty hard
chipping 2" locust.

But by the same token, since I want to chip that 2" wood, I would be
foolish to buy a chipper which could handle 2" maximum.

Honda 's have worked well for me, although some of their models utilize
bronze bearings which can be a problem in some applications. I used to
have a small boat powered with a Betamarine deisel that I was very
satisfied with, I don't know if they are adaptable to land uses.-Jitney
