So, who is using what insurance company for farm insurance.
Randy
First, tell me about your problem - I am switching from Pekin and have
quotes from State Farm.
AL
Latest problem is we have chickens. Can't sell chickens or eggs
according
to the idjit agent or staff.
Other problems is our rates have doubled in the past 3 years and they
keep
changing the policy coverage almost monthly. Almost impossible to
know
whats covered from month to month.
I've been a state farm customer for 25+ years but I've had enough of
them now.
Randy
uhmmm, aren't farms expected to sell farm products???

I've been with Pekin about that long and have learned on thing - go
where the price is cheap 'cause "loyalty" is bullshit... or maybe
chickenshit depending on the farm.

Nope, can't have any chicken shit on the farm

You must be one fastidious farmer...
Nope, just can't get insurance if you have chickens, therefore no
chicken shit.
Now what kind of silly insurance is that ?
Allied - used to be Farm Bureau.
My parents were with German Farmers Mutual for years. I don't know
if it was because they liked the insurance or because the neighbor sold
it.
Just from the name, I could tell you lived in that area of Nebraska.
Randy
Keep the policies you have, In the end they're all chickenshit. Just
get an "All Risks: rider from someone.
Interesting, what sort of problems are you having with State Farm?
We had State Farm when we moved up from our hobby farm 6 acre place to a
real farm. All seemed fine until we bought a 120HP tractor, then the
State Farm guys decided that we were, in fact, a real farm and promptly
cancelled us. They told us that State Farm Insurance doesn't insure
farms... Weird, huh?
We're with Farmer's Union Mutual Insurance now, which I believe is only
in Montana...

We were kind of outsiders in that German area. It seemed like
everyone was related somehow. My ancestors spoke Czech. Polkas were
on the radio regularly at my grandparent's places.
My cousin told me it's getting tough to find a kolach even in
Wilbur.
The one place I know of where the people were more closely related
was Henderson. A Mennonite town that still doesn't have a bar. There
might be several John Friesens, for example. Old John, Young John, John
A, B, C ...............
Are any of the old farmers' organizations still going? I think some
of them had some insurance programs. Farm Bureau?
I noticed the Farm Journal and Successful Farming are online.

You're scaring me.
Tough to find kolachi's in Wilber ? Damn.
Do they still have the yearly Chech festival ?
You said German, my mind read Runza's.
Up until the day my Grandmother died, she was paying into some kind of
old farmers insurance. Not sure what it was for. Never could get a
hold of
them to find out. She was from the Hastings area.
I was born south west of there. German folks everywhere.
Ever had blood sausage ? Good eats.

Yes. I haven't been to one in years. My parents would go the
parade and would bump into some friends from years gone by.

Yes on the blood sausage. Homemade, along with jaternice
(pronounced yethernitz) We sold the press at Mom's sale last spring.
That got me thinking of all the other home grown stuff we had. Beef,
pork, chicken, duck sometimes, eggs, milk, cream, butter. Plus all the
usual garden stuff. Mom made lye soap too.
I remember Mom would take the excess eggs to the grocery store in
Utica. They'd deduct the price from the grocery bill. I don't
remember if she could take the cream there or not. I think she took
some stuff to a place in Cordova but I can't remember anymore.
We went by your old stompin' grounds today on the way to my brother's.
Both the LES wind turbines were wound up.

Check with a local independent agent. I have a policy through
Farmers' Alliance, sold to me by an independent agent. Mine isn't
really a farm, but I'd suspect they'd know a little more about a farm
and be a lot more affordable than what you have.
Farm Bureau's insurance arm now is Country Insurance. I have
homeowners and auto with them. I would check with the Farm Bureau, or
ask around town.
Wonder what all the turkey barn owners are doing around here, if
insurers are taking this approach.
Disappointing that one of Illinois' companies would take this asinine
approach to what is probably relatively fleeting risk re avian flu.
Wonder if hogs will be the next uninsurables???
??duh??
