Don't know about the sugars in peaches, but thank your neighbors for
their kind advice, then pick your peaches whenever you have time to pick
them. *smile*

if they're ripe, they're sweet. if they're still green, they
aren't.
pick them before the squirrels do!

I think they taste better straight off the tree in the afternoon, but
part of that is that they are warm.
If you are picking for storage, morning might be better as they start cold.

That isn't always so. I have a flowering peach (planted specifically for its
incredible flowers) and it has peaches that are edible and delicious but
they are small and green even when ripe. They look awful but are delicious.
oops, no, i didn't mean green colored, i meant green as
unripe. some peaches are rather green colored when they are
ripe. if they *smell* like peaches & are starting to get soft,
they're ripe (of course, some people like hard peaches, but...
yuck.)

The fruit farmer I worked for sold his peaches at a market where he
had long-term customers. He never cared what time of day the peaches
got picked, just that they were ripe.

She's right. Start picking about four or five, not like it happens
instantly.
Same fruit, different thing. I live near peach country (Gaffney, SC) see
the Peachoid!!!!

Drove through on Friday and bought a bushel of very ripe (read rotten in a
day or so) peaches for THREE dollars.
Peeled and sliced they produced three gallons of wonderful peaches. Two
went into the freezer and one went for preserves and a cobbler.
