He has a good case. If immigration and the deportation of illegals is
federal business, they have no businews using state driver's licenses as any
part of their documentation to decide who is illegal and who isn't. This
country badly needs a national ID system to ascertain just who belongs here
and is a US citizen, and who is not and is just visiting, or is illegal and
should be deported. Right now, the government wants it both ways. They use
the states ID for their primary identification, but won;t let the states
deport anyone. - Typical liberal crazyness.....

I didn't see Judy's original post, so I'm replying via piggy
back.


I can see an argument for Fernando's claim.
Diver's licenses are a state matter while immigration is a
federal one. As such, there is nothing to bar an alien, legal or
illegal, from getting such a licence.
I don't know how successful such an argument will prove to be in
court, but I can see it being made.

Andy comments
If Federal Law on immigration were enforced, the states would
have no problem with the issue. However, it is being ignored, by
executive order, forcing each state to find ways to prevent the
problems that illegal aliens may be causing in their state.
Andy person visiting the US legally can get a license without
a problem. States are using that distinction to try to compensate
for a federal bureocracy that is using immigration law as a way
to get votes in an election.

Driver licenses is a state matter , all right, so let the states
define who is eligible for a license, as long as no federal laws
are violated. Remember, FEDERAL LAW requires citizens
of other nations visiting the US to carry documentation at all
times showing their compliance with the immigration laws
on the books.

I wonder just what documents they are talking about? I don't know of any
documents that can "show their complience with immigration laws on the
books". Were I an illegal alien, I would simply take a driving test and
obtain a drivers license. If I had to counterfeit a birth certificate to do
it, so be it. My birth certificate would have the correct date and hospital
name and doctors name. Otherwise, it would lie about the place. If an when
caught, I would say that I am a good driver, and that is what the document
is supposed to be for. Nowhere on my person are any papers that prove or
disprove that I am not an American Citizen.

**** Immigration visa, green card, federal work permit....


You can google the subject to find the papers that visitors to
the US are required to carry..... exactly like the US visitors
to Mexico must carry while visiting south of the Rio Grande.

Presently, they are required only to show them to US federal
officers and not to state police ---- which is a big controversy....
However, federal law requires them to be in their possession,
just as state law requires driver licenses and insurance cards
to be in the possion of US citizens when driving.....

All this information is available to you if you look for it using
google....

Not sure who has the right or wrong of this change in Georgia law. As a Georgia
resident I can attest to the amount of trouble this new law is for current legal
residents. Have a daughter that needed to renew her license. She is a college
student who lives part time on campus and part time at home in a different
county. If the student lives with the parents, what utility bills would the
student have? So utility bill can not be used to prove residence. It took her
near a month to find enough paper work to prove she was a Georgia resident. She
ended up filling as a resident of the county for the college. Right now she
does not really have a legal residence. She is a college student.

above papers. So, doesn't that tell you anything? I mean, think about it for
