No way to tell. We tend to 'trust' companies that are promoting
security and privacy. OTOH, there are hundreds doing so and no
certification that all (or which) are actually doing it.
It looks like a nicely conceived app from what I see there, but it's not
something I feel a need for.
Apple Message is already very strongly encrypted so there is nothing
this app will do that is not already being done against anyone in the
middle unless it's an SMS.
