If not, then how can 1 remove them automatically when sending them
through messaging (e.g., SMS & MMS)?

Thank you in advance. :)

As they say, "There's an app for that". Search for "remove exif" in the
App Store and have fun. ; )

So the answer is Apple iOS doesn't do it automatically then.

If you want to omit GPS information from your photos, you can disable it
in Settings > Location Services > Camera. Otherwise, you'll need an app
to remove the info after the fact.

Are you sure SMS pictures still have the exif data? I was under the
impression they didn't for some reason, though I can't find anything
right now.

I did look at a few SMS messages, however, and they do not have EXIF
data. Of course, they came from non-iPhone users and I am not sure if
they are cell phone pictures or not.

Ask the OP. He's the one asking to remove it.

Well, he asked if it was included in the original post and asked how to
remove it (which I took to mean, "assuming it is").

Send a photo to someone and have them look at it. Then you will have your
answer.

I took a photo with my iPhone 5S and sent it to my step-daughter via
iMessage. A check shows that with iMessage the EXIF is retained:

As to what metadata is retained when sent via SMS or email, I haven’t
checked on that.

Yes, we knew that. The question is, is the exif data retained in SMS
messages. I've checked several now and non have exif data, but that's a
sample size of three non-iMessage users, so...

What you are calling SMS picture messages are actually MMS messages.
SMS is only text. EXIF data is lost when a picture is sent via MMS. The
photos are compressed and the EXIF data is lost.

I figured as much. I just don't give enough of a shit to test it. : )

Yeah yeah, a difference no one cares about. You're right, but you're
being pedantic for no real reason
