The main problem is that the iOS update iOS 12.1 won't arrive on all
iPhones and iPads until much later this fall.
"...you'll have to wait until iOS 12.1 hits the market,
and Apple hasn't yet said when that will be."
Since *Apple never tests even their official releases in the real world*
"Whenever Apple releases new software and new devices,
there are often bugs that don't show up yet"
It's not recommended for a mere mortal to risk the many bugs that are in
_all_ the Apple beta releases (e.g., the proven broadcom security bugs,
proven Linux connectivity bugs, proven secret throttling tricks, proven
missing functionality, proven broken functionality, proven almost always
severe negative performance issues, etc.).
Since there is arguably _nothign_ of any value in iOS 12 anyway, users will
have to update to the iOS 12.1 just so that their phones will reliably
charge.
What's kind of funny is _that_ will be the *first item of real value* in
the entire iOS 12.x release suite!
