Not only is my writing nowhere on par with the Tribble Master, but I
can't seem to invoke "Nazi-like" behavior from Microsfot Store employees.
I finally got a chance to stop by my local MS Store in Denver Monday to
check out the Surface RT Tablet, and was left alone to play at my lesiure
(about 30-45 minutes total) only being interrupted twice by employees
asking if I was "doing okay" or of they "could answer any questions".
Eventually I asked an employee for "help" (I really was quizzing the
employee to test his knowledge of the product and the weird place it sits
between "real" Windows and a mobile phone OS) and he seemed to have it
down pretty well, as long I didn't take him too far "off-script".

Maybe MS reads online criticism (like Gerrold's FB page and Marco's blog)
that slammed their store employee's for being rude or intrusive and acted
quickly to rectify it (though I'm not sure MS could "react quickly" if it
touched a hot stove!), or maybe the employees were just overwhelmed by
the (frankly atypical!) crowds they were probably told to expect for the
Win8 and Surface launch. Or maybe the Denver MS store attitude is just
laid-back compared to others. (An area this chock-full of "medical"
marijuana might exhibit that attitude, I suppose...) ;) Or, perhaps,
Messers. Gerrold and Arment overreacted just a wee bit to a small amount
of rudeness and/or intrusion from an individual (Gerrold's guy seemed
pretty rude, but Arment's just seemed like an inexperienced, overzealous
guy who could've been politely told to back off) and turned their
situations, like good writers do, into a better story than it actually was.

We're all colored by our prejudices and experiences, and personally, I
always feel uncomfortable in an Apple store. It's my own fault- the
employees are always 100% friendly and courteous, but I've never been a
big fan of Apple's products, and I just don't get the whole "it's like
shopping on Moonbase Alpha!" look and feel of the Apple retail stores.
When browsing there I always feel like Charlton Heston trying to sneak
through the Ape temple unnoticed, lest someone notices me and screams
"Look! It's a Windows user! Get him!"

Todd, you have a way of summing things up in a rather interesting manner.

I concur 100% with your Apple store experience.

BTW, has anyone noticed how the Enterprise bridge of J.J. Abrams 2009
Star Trek reboot looks amazingly like an Apple store (even though the
rest of the ship looks like a rather industrial beer distillery?)

Who the fuck is David Gerrold, and why should I care?

SciFi writer, probably best known for authoring the Star Trek episode
"Trouble With Tribbles".

I once attended a Trek convention decades ago where David was
attending and was dressed as 'Cornelius' (Planet of Apes). I saw him
leap up on a hotel bar and demand a Banana Daiquiri (true story).

Well, to be fair to JR, I started a new thread, since UltimateIdiot and
his sack o' socks hijacked the original and I stopped following it.

You are a dim witted dork, fuckhead. Nobody hijacked anything. There
