When WordPress blogs operated by "wayward radish" were deleted, both
Monica Pignotti and Larry Sarner spoke out against them. Will history
repeat itself?
Of course, now that Dr. Pignotti has made it clear that the Internet,
as a whole, is a bad thing, she may not bother.
Search for Survivors is still up, though:
When it comes to testimonials of survivors, the evidence is no
different from the kinds of testimonials people give who were the
first to come forward, speaking out against Scientology gave, so I
doubt you'll get much sympathy here. Since it is unethical to do
randomized, double blind controlled studies to prove abuse, what we
have are testimonials and each person has to decide for him or herself
which are credible and which are not. Survivors of abuse from bogus
"attachment" therapies are just beginning to tentatively come forward,
so it's still very early in the process, much like it was for the
first survivors of Scientology who came forward. Over time,
testimonials were corroborated, documents were produced and the
survivors accounts became more credible, so give it some time and
we'll just wait and see what happens. I predict that this is just the
tip of the iceberg and we will see more and more survivors of this
brutal, barbaric so-called "therapy" come forward and some may even
choose to use their real names if and when the numbers build, part of
what is good about the internet.
The Live Journal doesn't say it was permanently deleted, as yours was
so it may come back. If not, there will be other avenues that you
cannot shut off so easily.
As for my comments about the internet, the fact that I think it is
doing more harm than good for some people doesn't mean that I don't
think there is anything good about it. There is some good that can be
accomplished. The problem is that many people do not have the critical
discernment skills needed to separate the bunk from what is valid and
that is what causes the harm, IMO.
One thing I have learned, though, is not to expect that justice will
be done when it comes to the decisions made by various blog hosts.
When it happens, it is a pleasant surprise but I no longer expect it.
