Kobe accuser won't be intimidated

February 3, 2005 -- Kobe Bryant's accuser unexpectedly showed up at
yesterday's pretrial hearing in her sex-assault civil suit, wearing a
wedding ring, with a nervous husband at her side - and a baby on the way.
Katelyn Faber, holding hands with her husband, braved a gaggle of media as
she walked into the federal courthouse and took her seat before Judge
Richard Matsch - no more slipping in through side doors.
It was a clear message from the 20-year-old - who bowed out of her criminal
case against Bryant last September - that she's determined to follow through
on her civil case, said lawyer Lin Wood.
"She is strong, resolute, and she is not going to be intimidated," Wood told
The Post. "This is her case, and she will be here as it moves forward."
Faber dropped out of the criminal case against Bryant in September -
reportedly after learning she was pregnant. In her civil suit, she seeks
unspecified damages for the pain, ridicule and scorn she says she suffered
because of the alleged attack and the publicity surrounding the criminal
case.
Faber met her 23-year-old husband, Eric Strobel, last summer while both were
in rehab for substance abuse in Boca Raton, Fla.
When she returned to her native Colorado after becoming pregnant, he went
with her.
During yesterday's brief hearing, an obviously nervous Strobel sat a row
behind his wife, biting his fingernails and fidgeting.
Faber appeared more composed as she listened to Judge Matsch hand down a
series of no-nonsense rulings.
He informed lawyers for both sides he would not let them put "immaterial,
impertinent and scandalous information" in their public filings.
Matsch said he'll seal court filings that delve in the sexual pasts of
Bryant and Faber. Although Faber's name was withheld while the criminal case
was pending, Matsch ruled in October that it be made public for the civil
case.
He explained that having her remain anonymous could suggest to jurors that
the court agreed her accusations were valid.

Same thing was said in the criminal case.
Bryant will prevail again, and we'll see another flood of excuses and
accusations that the court and her attorneys did this and that.
She is in for a rude awakening.

He is an idiot for cheating on his wife, with someone not even worth all
this crap, I agree on that.
But at least he is not the one falsely accusing someone of a crime that
he didn't commit.
