We have noisy adjoining (student) neighbours who are renting from a
landlord. The usual problem: drunken parties in the small hours all
week. My question: Does their landlord have any responsibilites in
helping us approach this problem? (Incidentally, our properties are
circa 1900 and the deeds specify 'no musical instruments to be played
between midnight and 7.00am!)

Sleeplessly awaiting your advice...

Possibly. Have you complained to the landlord? With what result? Are you
tenants too? (check your lease and see if there is any provision in there
about noise or other conduct disturbing to the neighbors). Perhaps a UK
solicitor responding to this post could give you a better idea whether you have
any specific protections in UK law, but at least that's a place to start on
solving the problem.

I had that problem last year. I just called the police on them
frequently until they finally got the message and quit.
