We used to sing this in camp and for the life of me I can't remember
the lyrics, only one snippet of the end:

"She sunk. Kerplunk"

Any help?

From foggy memories:

Oh, they built the ship Titanic to sail the ocean blue
And they thought they had a ship that the water wouldn't go thru
So they took her to the ocean and they took her to they sea
It was sad when the great ship went down, down, down

It was sad
It was sad (real tough)
It was sad when the great ship went down to the bottom of the

One group sings: Sea...... (dragging the word out)
Other group sings: Husbands and wives, little children lost their lives

It was sad when the great ship went down, down, down

I hope this helps

Oh they built the ship Titanic to sail the Ocean blue
And they thought they had a ship, that the water'd never go through
But the lord's all mighty hand, said that ship would never stand
It was sad when that great ship went down.

(Chorus)
It was sad (so sad)
It was sad (so sad)
It was sad when that great ship went down (to the bottom of the sea)
Husbands and wives, Little children lost their lives
It was sad when the great ship went down.

Oh they sailed from England's shore, 'bout a thousand miles or more
Where the rich refused to associate with the poor
So they sent them down below, where they'd be the first to go
It was sad when that great ship went down.
(Chorus)
Oh the boat was filled with sin and the sides about to burst
When the captain shouted, "Women and Children First!"
Oh the captain tried to wire but the lines were all on fire
It was sad when that great ship went down.
(Chorus)
Oh they swung the lifeboats out, o'er the deep and raging sea
When the band struck up with 'Nearer my God to Thee'
Little children wept and cried As the waves swept o'er the side
It was sad when that great ship went down.
(Chorus)

Hope this helps

Oh they built the ship Titanic

To sail the ocean blue
And they thought they had a ship that the water wouldn't go through.
But the Good Lord raised his hand, said this ship would never land

It was sad when the great ship went down

Chorus:
Oh it was sad ( so sad )
It was sad ( too bad )

It was sad when the great ship went down

To the bottom of the
Uncles and Aunts, little children lost their pants

It was sad when the great ship went down.

Oh they were not far from England
And headed for the shore
When the rich refused to associate with the poor
So they put them down below, where they were the first to go
Oh it was sad when the great ship went down

Chorus

Now the morale of this story
Is very plain to see
Always wear your Playtex girdle
when you go out to sea
Oh the Uncles and Aunts, little children lost their pants

It was sad when the great ship went down.

Chorus

Kerplunk. It sunk. Like Chinese junk. Cha-cha-cha.

Please, no flames from the PC crowd.

Hmm... let's see...

Oh they built this mighty steamship

to sail the ocean blue

and they thought they'd built a ship
that the water wouldn't go thru
but the good lord raised his hand
and said "this ship will never land"

it was sad when the great ship went down

Kerplunk, it sunk, like a Chinese Junk!

That's all from my rusty memory...

Oh, they built the ship Titanic to sail the ocean blue,

It was sad when the great ship went down.

Chorus:
Oh it was sad, so sad
Oh it was sad, so sad

It was sad when the great ship went down to the bottom of the

1st group: sea.........(long drawn out)
2nd group: husbands and wives, little children lost their lives
It was sad when the great ship went down.

They were forty miles from shore when they heard a mighty roar,
And the rich refused to associate with the poor.
So they put them down below where they'd be the first to go
It was sad when the great ship went down.

Chorus

??????????? (Can't remember this line - hope someone else can)
And the band played on, "Nearer my God to Thee"
But the good Lord raised his hand, said the ship would never land
It was sad when the great ship went down.

Chorus

(And it was "Kerplunk. It sunk. What a dirty piece of junk."
But my mother didn't like us to sing that line because this was "a serious
song about something that actually happened")

My wife remembers that, as a child, her family altered this part of the
lyrics so they wouldn't be so "traumatizing"--

"There were uncles and aunts, little children lost their pants..."

To continue on the "altering lyrics" theme, I recall being so saddened by
"Go Tell Aunt Rhody (The Old Gray Goose is Dead)" that my mother added on
a few verses about the goose coming back to life! (Would've made a great
movie...)

I can't remember the whole thing, either. All I have is the first verse and
the chorus, but at least it's a start! It's a pretty morbid song, but I
remember we used to sing it on the school bus very cheerfully!

Oh, they built the ship Titanic

To sail the ocean blue,

And they thought they had a ship

That the water wouldn't go through.

But the good Lord raised his hand,

Said this ship will never land.
Oh it was sad when the great ship went down.

Oh it was sad (so sad)
It was sad (too bad).
It was said when the great ship went down
To the bottom of the...
(husbands and wives and their children lost their lives)

It was sad when the great ship went down

To the bottom of the sea.

Does anyone else remember any more verses?

Yeah, I remember this song. My brother brought it home after he
went to Boy Scout camp.

I remember this verse a little differently:

Oh, they built the ship Titanic, they built it out of steel
And they said "No storm will ever break her keel"
But the Lord raised his hand and said she wouldn't stand
It was sad when the great ship went down.
