I just received my pictures from shutterfly, and they were terrible, I am
extremly upset about this. We wanted pictures of Sarah from when she was
born to share with the family, but these pictures were horrible, so we are
sedning them back. My problem is she is now 7 weeks old, and we want nice
pics. We have a digital camera, and have plenty of pics of her right after
she was born. Our options now are to take her to Sears and get pictures of
her now, or find another website that can print out our digital pictures and
mail them to us. I would like the second option. Now my question, does
anyone know any websites that print out pictures, and do a good job?

Thanks for your help!

Crystal

My extended family and I have all had excellent results with ofoto.com for
what it's worth.

What was the problem with your prints? Was it a printing problem for sure?
Or were you perhaps trying to print a larger size than recommended
for the resolution of the images? If the latter, you'll have the same
problem anywhere, bu if the former, maybe changing vendors will help.

I get mine done by Apple. They cropped one photo but other than that
I've had no complaints, and they're very fast.

I have ordered prints of my father's digital pics through Ofoto and have
been extremely impressed. He has a very good camera though. It makes quite a
difference.

I've also had dozens of rolls of film developed through ofoto also. Again,
always pleased with the results.

I've also used ofoto.com and been very happy with it.

That said, you might want to consider making an investment in a photo
printer. I use mine constantly and I love the convenience of not waiting for
mailing to see how they turn out.

First things first, make sure that the problem is in
the printing, not in the image. Did you take the image at
low resolution? Did you somehow send a low res image instead
of a higher res one? If you're sure the problem is in the
printing, you might try going somewhere local and just
having them do *one* test print so you're not out a lot
of money if it's not great. Most of the local photo shops
around here will let you bring in digital media and will
print from it for you.

Best wishes,
Ericka

My husband has taken up digital photography with a
vengence, and he kind of sorta recommends ofoto.com.
If you like the color as you see it on the screen with
ofoto, you will like the pictures. He had color space
issues, but eventually got them to deal with that. He
also has heard Walmart.com will print digital pictures,
and the word on the net is they are reasonable.

Local photo shops are good if you want the pictures
sent to you, and then you distribute them, with ofoto,
as with shutterfly, your relatives can order what they
want.

The very best digital photos I ever got were printed in a book at
mypublisher.com. You can have them print all your digital photos in a
yearbook type book. It looks like someone there went through and adjusted
color, contrast, sharpness, etc. I agree that none of the other photo print
sites ever did quite the same job, but you problem might also be with the
resolution or with the color. Resolution can't be fixed after the fact.
Color can be. You need to calibrate your monitor first, then use one of
those photo editing software to adjust the color, tint & tone. Make sure
you calibrate the monitor first, or the color will not look like what's
printed.

Thanks to everyone that wrote back. I am going to check out ofoto.com today.
I'm not really sure if it was a printing error, or if it was the photo that
I took enlarged didn't look right, I am thinking it was the second one now
from reading your posts, so we will probably go get them done professionally
now. I have to talk it over with dh when he wakes up.
Thanks again!!

My SIL swears by the Sears photographer in her area. I think the world of
the JCPenney studio nearest me. If you get their coupons, the prices are
very reasonable to get nice portrait type photos (which I reccomend doing
once or twice a year, they are a good complement to your own more candid
shots).

or find another website that can print out our digital pictures and

I don't know about any websites, but I remember seeing a sign in my local
Walmart that they now offer this service right in the store. It might be
easier to have them done locally at Walmart (or a regular photo shop like
Motofotos), and then if you aren't happy you can speak directly to the
person printing them and see if they can correct some settings to improve
them, without having to mail them out, wait and hope they understand what
you mean.

Crystal, most photo shops will make paper copies of digital images.
Just take them a floppy disk with the image file on it and they will
do the rest, sometimes while you wait.

Many stores (around here, it's drug stores, it seems) have machines
that do the same thing.
