We just had Johnny's 3 year portraits done yesterday at Expressly Portraits
and I am VERY HAPPY! We got great pictures, despite the fact that he was
terrified when we first got there and wouldn't even let go of Daddy. Here are
a few things that I liked better about E.P. over Sears or Penneys or Kmart
(all of which I have tried):

- All of the pictures were taken on the floor rather than on a table. Johnny
hated the tables at other places (reminded him of the doctor?) and I always
had to be careful to keep him from falling off.

- More creative props. We used a big 3 (I have seen that at other places); a
paintcan, brush, and stepladder, with Johnny standing on the stepladder; a
little train for him to sit on; a wagon wheel and bale of hay to sit on. They
also had a lot of others to choose from, like a little red wagon, a rocking
horse, and a wide variety of chairs. I could keep going back there for years
and not get tired of their props!

- Camera is on a tripod that the photographer could move around the room, and
it wasn't noisy at all. Other places have camera on a big noisy stand that
they move by remote just as you get the kid calmed down and in position and
scares them.

- We took our portraits home the same day! No 3 week (or more!) waiting for
pictures. They were really busy yesterday due to a special pet photo contest
they are doing to benefit PAWS (our 'humane society'), so we had to wait 1.5
hours for our pictures instead of only 1 hour, but it was no big deal. Johnny
wanted to go play with the Brio at Imaginarium and then get a 'pink cookie'
at Nordstrom espresso bar, so we easily killed the time.

- Photographer seemed more experienced than those at other places. She is my
neighbors sister and knows us, so that made it a little easier, but I get the
feeling that she is really good with kids in general. She has been working
there at least 2 years that I know, so she's not some trainee, like we often
got at Kmart. I wouldn't calssify her as a "professional", like you'd get at
some fancy studio, but she was much better than most I've seen at Sears, etc.

-In addition to the sheets of your choice, their packages all include a
FRAMED 11x14, and it's a pretty nice frame. You get about 10 frames to choose
from.

The only drawback on Expressly Portraits is that they are more expensive than
the others. I had a really good coupon, so I actually paid less than I would
have at Sears for the same number of prints, but without the coupon I would
have paid more than at Sears with their $5 or $6 per sheet coupon. But even
without the good discount I got, I think it might still be worth it because
the pictures were so good!

Now, I just need to get my Yearbook submission completed (uh... I mean,
started) so you all can see my cute guy!
