Hi-

I've been trolling the web for about a 1/2 hour now trying to find out
how to wash the cushion covers on my Shermag glider chair. My wife
loves putting our 8 & 1/2 month old to sleep on it. Unfortunately the
baby barfed all over it this morning (he has a little stomach virus).

So my question is, how the heck to you wash it? Best I can figure, the
fabric cushion cover probably would be machine washable if it weren't
for the foam lining on the inside. I know the foam insert I removed
was pure polyurethane - and I'm assuming the foam liner is the same.
I'm tempted to throw the liner in the washing machine on a cold cycle
and then tumble dry the thing (no heat) for a few hours until it
dries, but I don't want to ruin it.

My wife is out now getting a steam cleaner while the baby is asleep.
Maybe we should just stick with using that?

Anyways, advice appreciated.

... and to clarify, I'm looking at how to most properly wash the foam
and fabric cushion cover (which is comprised of fabric and a foam
inner liner).

Thanks in advance.

I think I have a similar glider, just based on googling "Shermag glider
chair" but I don't have the gliding foot rest part... I think, in all
honesty, I wouldn't make a huge deal of it. If your cushion cover comes
off, I'd toss it in the washing machine on a light/gentle cycle with some
vinegar or a touch of detergent - whatever you prefer. I'd then put the
cover outside to line dry - either on a laundry line, over a clean fence or
chair - whatever to dry it. For the actual cushion, I'd probably not steam
clean it (and I have a slight obsession with my own personal Little Green
Machine lol)... I would probably just spray the cushion with a mixture of
water and vinegar (half and half would be fine) and set that outside to
fully dry as well.
The vinegar will get any smell out and shouldn't harm the foamy cushion
thing. I wouldn't put it in the washer or dryer. We have those little
foamy couches - a few varieties - that the kids use. I normally just wash
the covers in the washer and spray the cushions to give them a little fresh
touch and let them fully dry in the air.
With little ones, especially babies, I learned long ago that things will get
puked on, peed on, pooped on, spilled on, you name it.
If you do go with a steam cleaner, I would recommend NOT using those harsh
chemical cleaners (like the steam cleaner 'shampoos') and use vinegar
instead. It's much easier on the material, doesn't leave that lingering
"shampoo" smell and vinegar is very quick to clean, sanitize and the vinegar
smell goes away - along with any odors (in the air, on carpet and furniture,
on clothing, etc) I give everything a spray of vinegar fairly often to avoid
odors and clean things up ;)

I would wash it but not dry it in the dryer. Let it air dry. Good luck.
