Jamie, You can sit and hold the cold teethers in their mouths. For
instance, baby in left arm, teether in right hand, wrist on baby's chest.
Mine got their teeth at three and four months. And they usually teethed for
two months before a tooth.
Be careful about latch and stop the breast teething. Tell him NO and take
him off.
Switching positions can help if you have a tender spot already.
Use the cold for a while right before he nurses so he won't be in pain.
Take care, Pam

Hello all....well it seems that my 3 month old is trying to start teething, I
know it seems alittle early, but I can see the two little milky buds cutting
through the bottom gums and I have noticed that in the last 3-4 days one area
on my areola is really touchy....he is using me as a teething ring. This
afternoon and evening he has cried almost nonstop, unless I was nursing him,
rubbing his gums, etc....Tylenol has not helped, Baby Oragel made him gag and
spit up....I have Hylands Teething Tablets now...he is asleep, so I will give
him some the next time he wakes up. Is there anything else that I can do? He
doesn't really know how to hold a teether yet, I can put this in his little
hand and he will try to get it into his mouth, then after a minute or so, he
drops it and really starts to cry. I have a sore throat and a migraine that
Tylenol is not touching in the mean time. I would really appreciate some help.
This is the little one who wont have anything to do with anyone but me.
Thanks,

Jamie

Thank you so much, I really don't realize that he is using me as his teether
until it starts to get painful. Then I unlatch him and he will start
screaming. My first didn't have any problems with teething, so I have been
lost for the past couple of days, I feel so sorry for him. It just breaks my
heart.

Thank you for your help,
Jamie

What my daughter's doctor recomended and it really helped a lot. Was to wet a
wash cloth and freeze it. Then let the baby chew on it. You will probably
have to hold on to it for him, but my daughter likes it better than her
teethers. Hope this helps. Sherry

Thank you all very much, so far the Hyland's tablets have subsided some of the
pain. I also did a no no, I let him chew on a cherry sucker and this seemed to
help him calm too.

Thanks,
Jamie

ALL BABIES DEVELOPE AT DIFFERENT RATES. YOURS MAY HAVE ALREADY STARTED
TEETHING. MINE STARTED TALKING AT FOUR MONTHS. HER FIRST WORD WAS MAMA
AND WHEN SHE FOUND OUT THAT I WOULD COME RUNNING WHEN SHE SCREAMED IT
SHE WOULDN'T SHUT UP. THERE REALLY ISN'T MUCH YOU CAN DO WHEN BABY
STARTS TEETHING WHEN YOU HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL THE REMEDIES PEOPLE HAS
SUGGESTED. ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF A LITTLE TYLENOL IS OK TO HELP BABY
THROUGH THIS TRYING TIME. I WOULD NOT DO SO WITHOUT THE DOCTOR'S OK
AND THIS IS SOMETHING YOU WOULD NEED TO USE WITH CAUTION. SINCE BABY
IS SO LITTLE IT IS A LITTLE HARD SOMETIMES TO GUAGE EXACTLY HOW MUCH IS
THE RIGHT AMOUNT. THIS HOLDS TRUE EVEN WITH ADULTS. I USUALLY TAKE A
1000MG DOSE OF ASPIRIN, OR TYLENOL FOR A HEADACHE, MY HUSBAND BARELY
TOLERATES ONE 325MG DOSAGE. WHEN HE GOES OVER HE DROPS LIKE A WET DISH
RAG. IT RELAXES HIM TOO MUCH AND HE SLEEPS. EVERYONE'S SYSTEM IS
DIFFERENT AND YOU AS A PARENT MUST DETERMINE WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO
HANDLE EACH CHILD. AND YES, EACH CHILD EVEN IF THEY ARE FULL BLOOD
BROTHER OR SISTER CAN HAVE SYSTEMS DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER. GOOD
LUCK IN FINDING A SOLUTION FOR YOUR TEETHING TROUBLES.

Tylenol has not helped, Baby Oragel made him gag and
>spit up....I have Hylands Teething Tablets now...

Hi Jamie..I have 7 kids..6 who I have gone thru teething with (my littles is
only 3 months old too). I have found childrens motrin to be a godsend.
Tylenol does nothing for teething (IMO). I discovered this when I needed a
root canal. I tried the tylenol..and tylenol with codeine for the pain.
Never helped it. I used motrin and it made a huge difference. Motrin (or
ibuprofen) reduces swelling and eases pain. I tested my theory on Travis
(now 2 1/2) and it WORKED! I have heard wonderful things about the HYlands
teething tablets tho. I plan to try that with Sarah when she begins
teething. Something else we did for Travis was to give him clean strips of
leather to chew on...they like the taste and it's very pliable and
comforting to them to gum on it. a wooden spoon (we have one Gary made for
our son..) well sanded to remove possibilities of splinters. When Travis
was a little older..he liked chewing on small bits of ice. Crushed Ice is
nice.

I think baby motrin is better for teething pain. Check with your ped's
office.

Better than tylenol that is. I usually just used hyland's until the
molars came in and then used motrin.

For your migraine, I suggest you look at
my Natural Migraine Treatment FAQ, which
you can find from a link on my home page
(see sigline).

For your sore throat, I recommend vitamin C and
zinc lozenges.

For teething -- try teethers of
various consistencies. Someone
suggested leather
and I think this is a
good idea since it's a similar
feel to your
breasts, which he has been
using as teethers.

I know it's hard when you're tired, but
I suggest you make an investment in being
pro-active about the latch.
That is, look at him from
time to time while he's nursing, and
catch the bad latch almost as
soon as it starts, before it
gets painful. More effort; but
within a few days I hope it will
pay off by training baby not
to chew on you like that.
Don't be hard on yourself if you
don't do this; you're exhausted
from hearing baby cry. But if you do
make the effort I think it will
definitely be worth it.

It took me a long time to learn
that it's worthwhile in parenting
to be pro-active about many things.

Speaking of being pro-active: you'd
better fix that latch before the
teeth erupt, or it will
hurt a lot more! After my son got his
first couple of teeth I had to
train him to do a better latch.

Try taking 600-800 mg of ibuprofen instead of the Tylenol. Ibuprofen helps
more with the inflammation of the throat and should work for a longer period
of time. It's safe while bf, and it should give you some relief.

Brynda (who has an ear infection, and only ibuprofen helps :)

Teething in babies refers to the appearance of the first teeth through the gums of the baby. The way baby's teeth differs to a great extent which is why it is important to know all about teething so that you can offer your child every comfort while he/she is teething. Babies usually start teething at the age of 6 months. The process may, however, begin as soon as 3 months and may get as delayed as 12 months. The first teeth to appear are the lower front ones (also known as incisors), followed by the appearance of top two middle ones and then the ones on the side and back. The order is not strictly followed, though. The complete set of primary teeth, consisting of 20 teeth, appears by the age of 3 years. The permanent teeth start coming in at the age of 6 years.
