Experience

Operations Production Manager
I am highly experienced with extensive knowledge of all aspects of the
manufacturing business and available processes. I have worked in a multi-
product and multi-functional organisation which is at the forefront of
technology, which has encompassed Guided Weapon, Electronic Warfare, RADAR and
Hybrid manufacturing.
In the last five years I have undertaken a more senior managerial role during
the establishment of Customer Focused Business Cells necessitating both a
cultural and operational change.
Within these roles I have had to Project and Product manage programmes from
conception, through to pre-production and then into main production taking a
view of all aspects. Recent programmes include a £40 Million Commercial RADAR
system and a £20 Million Electronic Warfare programme, which I have
successfully implemented into manufacturing.
My background in Test, Engineering, Software development, and
Design/Development Support has provided me with the necessary experience to
achieve a senior position within the company and manage this manufacturing
environment.
I am actively involved, as part of many management steering teams which
include ‘World Class Manufacturing’, ‘Information Technology Forum’,
and ‘Productivity & Cycle Times’
As the current Operations Production Manager for the unit, I am responsible to
both the Operations Manufacturing Manager for whom I deputise and Operations
Director for manufacturing facilities which provide all manufactured sub
assemblies and systems for all of the other business areas within the company’s
products.
In addition, the support of Prototype, and Pre Production Lead In Activities is
also managed within this role.
The Microelectronics Manufacturing unit consists of three major manufacturing
units of Assembly (Ceramics & LASER, Microstrip Processing, Assembly
Integration), Test and Inspection, these areas are also supported by Quality,
Engineering and Projects.
To achieve the quality of complex finished products it is necessary to employ a
range of automatic and semi automatic equipment within the high technology
process areas.
These areas together with the support groups within my direct control total
approximately 150 personnel, ranging form unskilled sub-contract staff through
to highly qualified engineers.
Specific Responsibilities
Manufacturing
The operations management team have the responsibility for provision of
sufficient trained resource, machine scheduling, and co-ordination of support
groups, to achieve high quality products in line with the Master Factory
Schedule.
Monitoring and reporting of hours used compared to standard hours, yields,
performance metrics, productivity, rework, scrap, and key business metrics are
also a requirement.
Management of labour within the budgeted costs, to the agreed schedules and
quality. Currently I manage budgets in excess of £7 Million.
Production Control
The derivation of the Master Production Schedule and the provisioning of
material to achieve same. Re-scheduling due to unplanned material shortages
also form part of the brief as does reporting of manufacturing achievements,
stock levels, and stores metrics.
Engineering
Definition of manufacturing facilities and processes together with the
resolution of shop floor of a general engineering nature on a day to day basis.
Early design liaison to provide right first time designs at the lowest credible
cost is a significant task. Method engineering as a continuos review of product
designs and manufacturing effectiveness to ensure minimum cost and optimised

To represent the Customer interest within the manufacturing team and to define
