Job Summary
Traffic engineering position responsible for Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS) analysis and design; evaluation and
deployment of projects related to ITS elements such as fiber
optic cable systems, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and
Dynamic Message Signs (DMS); design and implementation of Gigabit
Ethernet- and ATM-based optical networks, planning and overall
coordination of command center operations; design of
communications systems between field devices and central
operations centers; and the design of highway and traffic signal
systems.
Essential Functions
„X Development of the PS&E for the installation of fiber optic
cable systems, CCTV cameras, DMS and other ITS components such as
traffic counters, environmental sensors and speed detection
systems
„X Design of communications and power conduit layouts
„X Coordination of planning efforts between field devices and
command center operations.
„X Evaluation of communication alternatives between field
equipment and the traffic operations center utilizing Gigabit
Ethernet and ATM optical networks
„X Production of roadway lighting, signing, pavement marking,
traffic signals and traffic management system design plans
„X Design signing, pavement markings and traffic signal
installations
„X Traffic forecasting, analysis and modeling
„X Development of traffic impact studies based upon state or
local agency standards
„X Identification and recommendation of ITS initiatives based
upon organizational objectives and command center
responsibilities

Education and Experience
Required:
BS in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Systems
Engineering; 8+ years of experience; planning and/or systems
design for Intelligent Transportation Systems; experience in
implementation of telecommunication networks for both data and
video signal transmission under both wireless and wireline
configurations; experience with command center implementations
and operations; traffic impact studies, analysis and modeling;
traffic signal
design; must have good organizational and communication skills,
and the ability to work well in a team environment.
Desired:
Professional Engineer licensed to practice in the State of Texas;
Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE); experience with
fiber optics, telecom standards, coordinated signal systems, OSI
layers, and communication networks.
