AppTec Laboratory Services has a strong, decade-long history of providing
testing services under the name ViroMed
Biosafety Laboratories. ViroMed,
which was established in 1982, began as a private, regional reference
laboratory performing infectious diseases testing,
and its
virology/microbiology
expertise made it one of the premier private clinical
laboratories in the country.
JOB SUMMARY:
Sufficiently competent in
science to initiate and carry out scientific development projects related
to
the development of
new analytical assays. Schedules and directs assays under
the supervision of the Study Director or Principal
Investigator. Assists
with training junior staff members. Performs and directs assays according
to
and in compliance
with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), current Good
Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
and/or Points
to Consider (PTC) guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts and directs assays and lab
procedures according to and in compliance with GLP, GMP, CFR and/or PTC
guidelines and SOPs.
Accurately completes batch records and other required
documentation according to and in compliance with GLP,
GMP, CFR and/or PTC
guidelines and SOPs.
Contributes independently to overall scientific rigor
through objective laboratory investigation.
Demonstrates proficiency in
scientific theory and rigorous practical application in the completion of
lab
procedures.
Conducts critical review of results and reports data to Study
Director or Principal Investigator.
Independently initiates and carries out
scientific development projects relating to the development of new assays.
Trains new personnel in lab procedures.
Effectively interacts with clients as
required.
Schedules lab work.
Prepares and revises technical documents and
reports.
Maintains laboratory notebook and follows all general and laboratory
SOPs.
Performs assays using appropriate laboratory techniques for lab group
assigned to.
Reports observations of ongoing tests to Study Director or
Principal Investigator.
Communicates with supervisor and other colleagues re:
daily lab activities.
Prepares reagents and completes reagent batch records.
Checks reagents for expired chemicals and disposes of any expired reagents.
Performs laboratory maintenance (i.e. decontaminates and disposes of
medical
waste as appropriate, maintains
laboratory supply inventories, keeps work
surfaces clean and neat) and keeps records of maintenance according to
guidelines and SOPs.
Performs routine equipment monitoring and cleaning (i.e.
centrifuges, bio-guard and chemical hoods, pipette-man,
refrigerator and
freezers) & keeps records according to guidelines & SOPs.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bachelors degree with major in chemistry, or in another relevant scientific
discipline, plus three years or more experience in analytical chemistry or
analytical
biochemistry, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Specialized training in laboratory techniques used in Analytical
laboratory is
required.
Knowledge of GLP and GMP guidelines is preferred.
Ability to use
judgment as dictated by complexity of situation.
Ability to work under limited
supervision and to handle problems of a more difficult nature.
Ability to
accomplish the described duties through the use of appropriate laboratory
equipment (e.g. chromatographs, spectrometers, centrifuge) and computer
equipment and software. (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to
accurately and reproducibly weigh samples, make dilutions, pipette liquid
volumes and perform other routine steps of an Analytical laboratory
Ability to
accurately and reproducibly perform arithmetic calculations including
fractions, decimals and percentages and basic algebraic and geometric
calculations.
Ability to evaluate technical data and write technical
documents.
