Some people cannot read a book and understand what it says. For them,
they need seminars and hand holding. Others just can't read and need
videos :-( Anyway, the material presented in the seminar that I
attended is, IMHO, just what is presented in O'Neil's book (look at all
those single quotes :-) I don't believe that the title of the seminar
is "timing the stock market", but it is the one advertised in IBD.
Is it *worth* $595? One argument is you wouldn't have to improved your
performance very much to get 595 back (either profits or reduced
losses). OTOH, the book by O'Neil (note different grammar :-) is
probably only 12.95 in paperpack.
If you aren't interested in CANSLIM, then don't do the seminar. If you
are considering the seminar, then I'd read/study the book first. The
more you already know, the better your chances of getting an
understanding in depth.
The efficacy of the CAN-SLIM method has been debated some on the net. I
have a broker who almost worships the ground O'Neil walks on. And he
has been reasonably successful. We have been out of the market for
about 3 months, partially because he jumped ship and my account hasn't
transferred yet. Still, the overall market looks very poor (see the
mutual fund composite chart in IBD, for example).
