What difference does it make if you purchased a piece of land on
mainland china for development or buy shares of a company in Brazil
whose primary asset is the same piece of land. In both cases, you
would own a piece of China (literally), and you will benefit when the
surrounding land is developed.
Shares in this company are China shares because they benefit from
China.
Taiwan is as much China as Long Island is a part of NY. Same TV
stations, same people etc.
>From: Ed ( fri...@fishinthe.net )>China I would think they meant
China.<
>From: Ed ( fri...@fishinthe.net )>Hong Kong, they meant Hong Kong.<
Great Britain eventually had to agree Hong Kong has always been China
when they ceremoniously withdrew.
>From: Ed (fri...@fishinthe.net )>Taiwan, I would think they meant
Taiwan.<
What do you think of when they say Hawaii? Hawaii and Porto Rico can
no more get away from mainland USA than Taiwan or Hong Kong can get
away from China. This is not only due to their geographical location,
but also because of the customs and beliefs. The main one being the
interbreeding of children.
Do you know that a Saab and Subaru are both made by GM.
When you hear Bentley, do you think VW?
Even if you choose to live the illusion. A Rover will still be a VW.
A Ferrari is built by Fiat. A Volvo is a Ford. Hawaii is still in
the United States, and Hong Kong, Taiwan and Tibet are part of the
economics of "The People's Republic of China."
>From: Ed ( fri...@fishinthe.net )>This way, one doesn't have to guess
or assume anything.<
When you know the truth, you do not have to guess.
>From: Ed ( fri...@fishinthe.net )>In my opinion, CHN, The China Fund
is not a pure China play, it is a China region fund. In addition,
anyone that was up 100% for being in over a year has been taken. You
see, China Fund, which holds no China stocks, was up 216.7% last year.
<
Should have said up over 100%. OK Ed, if they are not China Stocks as
defined by "The China Fund," then what stocks do you think they are
holding?
>From: Ed ( fri...@fishinthe.net )>I suggest that you go back and read
(Subject: Re: Best China Fund?) below. <
I read it, checked my account balances. I have been in The closed-end
"China Funds," for many years and the profits seem to be spendable.
>From: Ed (fri...@fishinthe.net)>It was you who correctly labeled JFC,
Jardine Fleming China Fund and TDF, Templeton Dragon Fund as China
region funds. GCH, Greater China Fund, and CHN, The China Fund as
pure China plays. In reality, GCH, Greater China Fund is the only
"pure China play." <
That certainly could be true. GCH, Greater China Fund is more of a
mainland "peasants and farmers play." It is lagging behind the rest
of the group in N.A.V. The only value that counts for long term
investors
>From: Ed ( fri...@fishinthe.net )>BTW, CHN, The China Fund is also
invested in the U.S. and Singapore. Are these also Chinese companies?
<
The question is if those companies will benefit from the growth of
china, which is what this is always about. If they will, they are.

Everything you buy at Walt Disney World is made in China so Disney benefits
so must also be a Chinese company.
Since each of those countries can be invested in separately or regionally I
see a difference between a China region fund and a China fund. If you don't
that's fine with me.
I don't know of a Hawaii fund or a Porto Rico fund, do you?

Do you know the story behind what "Fleming," did to China?
