This group may not be the appropriate venue but...

I'm planning to prepare for the CFA exam (June of 1995).
I'm preparing for the CPA exam now so upcoming June exam
is not feasible for me

Anyway, can anyone share his/her experience with
the CFA exam. That is, best method of preparation,
preparation materials, etc.

I would also greatly appreciate any other info.

Thank you in advance.

Start early in the year.

Try Stalla's outlines. They are great for review.

I did not take any review courses -- I do better at my own rate vs.
moving too slow through material I already know and too fast through
new material. I did however allow a full week just ahead of the exams
for review.

Get 3 more years of prior exams from AIMR in addition to the 3 provided.

Keep at the studying and pass them on the first try (who would want to
do two+ years of prep for a single exam!

Good luck.

I am a currently procrastinating studying for the CFA-Level I test this
June. The study guide for the next-years test should come out in mid-
November. Every year they seem to change the required texts slightly (new
editions, etc.). If you have never had macro- and micro-economics,
financial statistics, finance and/or investment courses, getting a broad
overview of these areas would be a place to start. Level-I so I have been
told is pretty straightforward formulas and definitions. Level II and III
is where the testing gets more subjective. Using study guides is
recommended, I don't know about seminars. I am using Larochelle-Panneton
and Schweser's Notes, both helpful for different reasons. As a candidate,
expect about a hundred solitications by mail once the candidate reading
list is published in November. It takes a couple of weeks for these
outfits to read the material and prepare their digests, cassettes, videos,
computer programs, etc. There's plenty of time if you start in January
with the study guides. If you can find a local financial analyst society's
study group, that is also recommended. You can expect to be notified
also in November where the registered study groups are in your area. These
don't usually start till January. If you are interested in older tests,
the Institute provides you the three previous exams with correct answers.
You might be able to find someone in your area who has taken the tests
recently and would be willing to share older materials with you.

You also might join the AFA-CFA mailing list, it isn't very active but it's
designed as a forum for CFA members and candidates. It's address is afa-cfa@
WSUVM1.CSC.WSU.EDU and I think you subscribe by sending "SUB AFA-CFA" to
list...@wsuvm1.bitnet with no subject and no other text in the body of the
message. I might be wrong but that's what I remember.

Good Luck!

UT at Austin,

Best source for comprehensive study material that I've found is the
Stalla Seminars CFA Review Course Instruction Manual. Call Stalla
Seminars,Inc. at 216/835-4984. Not cheap but it is considered to be
the Holy Grail where I'm from (Minneapolis). I just took level I in
'94 and found them useful. Best of luck!
