With all the 'smart' phones and all this 'bandwidth' that is necessary
it would appear to me that we are fast running out of wireless
infrastructure. How can we profit in this?

Without ample bandwidth this mobile experience sucks like AOL access
used to be via dial-up. Without fast access my iPhone sucks ass.

Anyone have a line on the companies who are installing towers for the
big carriers or what companies are playing a part in high bandwidth
coverage? Whats this G4 stuff Sprint is touting all about? Is is
faster than 3G? I think not and I think most of them towers are pretty
much old tech.

Does anyone here work in this field? What is it that is necessary to
handle all this increased bandwidth (smartphone) use? How can we
invest in a pure play for fast wireless internet infrastructure?

I keep reading about WiMax. Alvernon (ALVR) is one that has done some
pretty big installs in the Caribbean and in some major cities outside
the USA partnering with Gemini Comm.

I found this and it got me thinking... WiMax outside the USA is huge..
Like how Europe and Asia has much better telephone/tv/etc than we do
here in the mighty USA we are always playing catch-up in delivery.

My point is this: WIMAX is big elsewhere.. It seems to be a good
solution for the USA once people realize that the present bandwidth
sucks with all these new phones coming online sucking bandwidth. They
may even start charging for bandwidth. That WILL wake people up. WIMAX
solutions are the answer.. But for some reason these big cell companies
in control think that there towers will be able to handle the
bandwidth.. they are stretched now.. Just wait..
GO to Tiawan or China and they have great coverage via WiMax. Go to
Isreal, France, Germany, Spain and what do you see. Ok.. Jews, Frogs,
Krouts and Gypsy's.. but I digress to see if your reading this.. <smile>
My point is WiMax is a viable technology and it is coming. ALVR is
one play.. Look it over.

ALVR Indian network equipment provider Gemini Communication along with
its subsidiary PointRed Telecom has won an INR 4.35bn ($93m) contract
from state-run telecoms operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to
deploy an IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX network.
Under the deal, the company will erect 7000 mobile wiMAX base stations
across BSNL's network. The company said PointRed will get 40% of the
contract, while the remaining will be shared between ZTE, Harris Stratex
and Alvarion.

The network will connect CSC's across India for delivering e-governance
service for commercial broadband services. Earlier this year, BSNL
awarded the first phase of the INR 2.7bn ($58m) mobile WiMAX project to
Huawei and Gemini-PointRed.

In July, India-based telecoms transmission technology provider Sterlite
Technologies won a $77m contract from BSNL to provide a
fiber-to-the-home network based on its GPON technology.
