Nidec Corp. is a joint stock corporation that was incorporated and
registered under the Japanese Commercial Code (which was replaced by the
Company Law in May 2006) of Japan on July 23, 1973 under the name of Nihon
Densan Kabushiki Kaisha. The Company is a global manufacturer of electric
motors and a manufacturer of electronic machinery and components and other
products. With a particular focus on brushless DC motors,
The Small Precision Motors business covers an array of direct-
current, or DC, electric motors operating at less than 100 watts. This
business group is divided into four product categories according to
application: hard disk drive spindle motors, other small precision
brushless DC motors, brushless DC fans, and other small precision motors.
It manufactures spindle motors for hard disk drives used in personal
computers, or PCs, computer servers, and a range of digital consumer
electronics.
Other Small Precision- this product category consists of various
types of small electric motors other than brushless DC motors, which are
manufactured and sold by its consolidated subsidiaries, and includes:
stepping motors for refrigerator icemakers, optical disk drives,
camcorders, digital still cameras and car navigation systems, vibration
motors for mobile phones, brush DC motors for CD and DVD players, and servo
motors for industrial equipment and home appliances.
The Mid-size Motors business group provides electric motors with
power output higher than that of small precision motors and has
applications in home appliances, automotive systems, household systems and
industrial equipment. The automotive motor business is conducted by it and
its wholly-owned subsidiary Nidec Motors and Actuators (formerly Valeo
Motors and Actuators).
The Machinery business group is managed by its consolidated
subsidiaries and consists of various equipment and machinery mainly for
industrial use. The Electronic and Optical Components business is conducted
mainly by Nidec Copal Corporation in the camera shutter and lens unit,
metal casing and other industries, Nidec Sankyo Corporation in the
precision plastic molding, home appliance unit and other industries, and
Nidec Electronics Corporation in the encoder, switch, trimmer
potentiometer, actuator and other industries.
The Others business includes various operations not covered by other
business groups, mainly consisting of sales from pivot assemblies for hard
disk drives, automobile parts and logistics. It serves various electric
motor markets and competes with a number of different companies depending
on the particular product offering. In Japan, it is subject to
environmental regulation under the Air Pollution Control Law, the Water
Pollution Control Law, the Wastes Disposal and Public Cleaning Law, the Law
for the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources, the Basic Law for
Establishing a Recycling-based Society and other laws. The Company's
overseas operations are also subject to environmental regulation. The
Company's operations in the United States, for example, are subject to
extensive federal environmental laws and regulations.

Based in Florida, Ener1 was founded in 1985. The company designs, develops
and manufactures high-performance, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and
battery systems for energy storage. Ener1 operates through three segments:
EnerDel (battery), EnerFuel (fuel cell) and NanoEner (nanotechnology). Each
of the three segments is a wholly owned subsidiary, with Ener1 serving as
the parent company. EnerDel, the company's primary business, was formed in
2004 when the company purchased an 80% stake in the lithium-ion battery
operations of Delphi. Ener1 has since acquired the remaining ownership of
the operations.

This (UQM) is interesting for the electric airplane motor aspect.

With normal cost running about $20-25 a hour for gas powered light
airplanes the electric motor can do the same thing at $3 a hour.

There are a TON of older airplanes that would welcome replacing their
worn out present motor for a electric with batteries which w/ batteries
weigh about the same weight as the combustion motor w/ fuel.

dunno if planes are part of their strategy:

UQM Power is manufacturer of motors and electronic products designed by the
company. The Company has focused its resources on the development of
efficient electric propulsion systems for each category of vehicle with
power levels of 0.5 kW to 150 kW, which are suitable for vehicles ranging
from wheelchairs to passenger automobiles to large trucks, buses, tractors,
construction equipment and military vehicles. In addition, it has developed
electric motors, generators and electronic controls to power under-the-hood
auxiliaries such as water, oil and fuel pumps, power steering, cooling fans
and air conditioning compressors. It has also developed DC-to-DC converters
that step down high voltage electrical systems to 12 volts and DC-to-AC
inverters that convert DC power to consumer friendly 110-volt alternating
current power.

I peg the entry point on a leg-down to $3.50
I think the short sellers are gloming onto UQM due to their inability
to get cash positive

Bye Energy plans flight test of electric-powered plane

(Bye is working with companies such as UQM Technologies Inc)

Bye Energy Inc. said Thursday it plans to spend the next several months
installing an electric motor in a small, two-seater plane and test
flying the plane.

The Greenwood Village-based private company announced it is starting
The Greenflight Project, a proof of concept effort to show that its
electric motor can power a small, two-seater plane.

Today is the beginning, said George Bye, CEO of parent company Bye
Aerospace Inc. Were trying to move this at its core, move the
mainstream industry into a production vehicle.

Electric planes have been pursued for years by companies and researchers
around the world.

Bye is working with companies such as UQM Technologies Inc., which
builds electric motors and received millions of dollars in stimulus
money in 2009 to work on battery-powered cars.

Bye also is working with Ascent Solar on ways to put thin-film
photovoltaic solar power panels on the wings of Byes plane to harvest
the suns energy and funnel it into the planes batteries and motor.

The company also is working with Wings Over the Rockies museum, which
has a 6,000-square-foot hanger at the airport and has given Bye space
for the plane, said Gregory J. Anderson, president and CEO of the museum.

The company has spent 18 months designing the prototype motor, using a
core group of about a dozen engineers, Bye said.

Investment in getting the plane into the air is expected to be around $1
million, both in money and in-kind services from the companys partners,
said Charlie Johnson, Byes COO.

Bye and Johnson also led Aviation Technology Group Inc. (ATG). ATG was
working on building a very light jet when in May 2008, it laid off
employees and filed for Chapter 7 liquidation.

Bye said the new 90-pound electric motor is completely quiet, doesnt
produce emissions, is 95 percent efficient, and needs a battery to
operate. If swapped for a standard internal combustion engine, the
electric motor and batteries weigh about the same a critical factor
for safety issues.

The company also plans to offer retrofit kits for existing airplanes.
The nation has more than 200,000 small planes, with an average age of 38
years, Bye said.

The cost of operating an electric plane is about $3 per hour, compared
to $15 to $30 for a gas-fueled plane, depending on its size. Recharging
takes about one hour per one hour of flight, but technology improvements
are expected to cut that to 10 minutes per hour of flight, he said.

The company expects the electric-powered plane to start taxing around
Centennial Airport this summer, with flying scheduled for late fall or
early winter, Johnson said.

Whats your read on TSTC? I sold some for a gain.. thinking I would buy
it back at $15.40 but it spun and has not looked back. Now I am scared
to touch it.

WIMAX provider ALVR looks good with this high-speed hand-held world of
data. Everyone wants fast speed.. even the Carib Islands, and little
communities in Batphuck, Nowhere. ALVR has some good solutions. Nice
little Israeli company. Quality gear.

becase of the reverse split of 1:826 back in 2004, most shares are priced
above $50 wth peak basis above $700 !!
TSTC is working off overhead
don't worry about short term spikes. every rally will be followed by
desperados selling cost averaged positions
