I searched the FAQ and I found books, phone-numbers, and services that
evaluate mutual funds. What I am interested in, is a listing of
magazines or other updated sources to evaluate funds. Hopefully,
someone will be able to list 4-5 sources that I could find at a
newstand or library.

thanks in advance,

Every quarter, Barrons magazine publishes a complete list of mutual funds. The latest issue was probably published in Nov. '93. I'm sure your library has a copy.

The most in-depth and comprehensive mutual fund ratings are done
by Morningstar, which most libraries subscribe to. If you're serious
about investigating funds (past performance, investment strategy, risk,
load- and tax-adjusted returns, holdings, etc.) in detail, as you
should before investing, this is the source.

If you want more cursory rankings of top funds over recent periods,
many financial magazines have these, e.g., Forbes and Money. It's
then a matter of locating the issue that contains the annual (or more
frequent) rankings.

Also, for very up-to-date info. on performance, check out the Wall
Street journal's fund listings, which include performance YTD and
over the last 3 & 5 years and also grades for each fund w.r.t. other
funds in the same category.

Have fun!

I've begun seeing ads for Value Line's mutual fund
surveys. Has anyone seen them, used them, compared
them to Morningstar's?
