Ya'll:

I'm posting this for a colleague (that is, my friend/pal/mentor/nerd etc...).

What are ansi points?

He's found some old transformer data with a curve composed of these ansi
points. Are they some sort of damage curve data?

thanks & merry CHRISTmas,
russ

The ANSI point for a xfmr relates to the amount of time the xfmr can
withstand (without injury) a short circuit on the terminal of any
winding(s). It is directly related to the xfmr impedance....
therefore, it provides a point on the coordination plot which defines
the protective device operating zone in order to protect the xfmr.

There is probably more to it than that, but that is all I know about
it.
