I Have a small shop here on longisland NY and bought a used 1989 itek
3985 (3302) press with crestlines. The press has 16 mil imp and I got
it off the floor of a shop that upgraded to a 3304. They demo the
press and had great maintenance since it was new. I am running metal
plates with brand new ink rollers but the ones in the crestlines are
about 4 years old. I am pulling my hair out getting this press to run
right waste a lot of paper getting ink water balance. On a run I get
up to color in 40 sheets then about 250 sheets later I get some
background toning in the 2nd unit. I have to run this press at over
4500K per hour because if I run it slower I get toning. I am running
Fuji hunt fountain solution. If I stop the press and restart every
thing goes to pot!!! Every thing works great on this press and I think
its a great press. I Have new rollers coming in from crestline next
week and I am praying this will do the trick. I have worked on an old
GTO46 for over 15 years and still think this press should be easier to
run. Any light that can be put on this problem would be of help. Also
I am running Vanson CML ink I see that some say this ink eml on the
pan roller. any better inks? Spinks? toyo? Also actcell fountain
solution?

i would first start with the new rollers. i know on our ryobi 582, which
isnt crestlines, but ryobi's own cont. dampning system is very particular
about being adjusted just right. also, with your rollers being 4 years old
and the fact that water rollers seem to shrink more than ink rollers over
time i would wait and see if the rollers are the main problem. are you using
tap water or distilled? we switched to distilled when we put in our 4 color
and its made a noticible difference. keep us up to date!
