Here in Washington State, it's the Washington Survey & Rating bureau that
provides what is called the Fire Protection Class. The protection class is
based on many things. Distance to fire hydrant, how much water the wells
hold, distance to fire station, whether the station is volunteer or paid,
how many units are available to respond, etc. Protection class 1-4 is all
the same rate level. 5 & 6 are another. Then there is 8A, then 8, 9 & 10.
The final 3 are not good and some insurance companies won't insure in this
PC. 10 means its unprotected. But, the insurance company has nothing to do
with these classes, but they base their rates accordingly.
Hope this helps.
