Hi everyone,
I need some advice. One of my friends was in an accident yesterday and
knocked a street pole down that smashed a car. This friend did not
have her coverage up to date. Can she purchase coverage now before she
gets sued and be protected or is it too late? She is concerned about
losing her house. She is struggling financially and the house is her
only asset.

I would appreciate any info. Thank You

sam...@yahoo.com (Dawnil), you asked:

I don't know any insurance company with will insurance a burning house. In
other words, you can't buy insurance to cover something that's already
happened.

Unfortunately this kind of thing happens too often . . . where someone is
"struggling financially" and cuts down some or all of their insurance coverage
in order to get along better for one's basic needs. It's always a gamble to do
such a thing. In your friend's case, the gamble didn't happen to pay off. I 'm
very sorry to hear this story and hope she can find help to at least minimize
the amounts she may have to pay.

It's too late. No one will write a policy to retroactively cover this
property damage.

She should consult an attorney immediately.

Sorry, but feel she is out of luck. What you are talking about is
retrospective coverage which is only done on large commercial risks where
limits may be inadequate. The premium for this is as large, usually, as the
limit being purchased.

Let me get this straight. Your friend drives without insurance, has an
accident & now she wants to buy a policy?? I hope she loses everything.
She's the reason that WE pay so much for coverage. Ler her burn.
