I had my final interview today, passed all the tests and no problems
with any questions. The interviewer told me a decision cannot be made
today and checked that box on the N-652 form.
I inquired why and she informed we that she was "waiting on a file from
another office". I assume this means the background check but she did
not make any note on the N-652 form (other posters on this site have
indicated that the interviewer normally makes a handwritten note).
I would appreciate any feedback on what they believe is the reason for
not completing today and also any ideas of time line in Atlanta.
My time line:
N-400 applied: 12/15/04
Fingerprints: 08/05
Interview: 11/15/05
Thanks in advance.

The memo dictates that individuals waiting to be sworn in should be
processed through IBIS prior to the oath ceremony to the maximunm extent
possible.
NOT TO WORRY

I see nothing has changed at the Atlanta office. Don't worry. this is
normal for Atlanta. check out my timeline A mistake was made where
Atlanta was sending the requests for file to the VSC, the VSC was
ignoring those requests because they were improperly submitted (due to
changes in protocol and the Atlanta district office was not up to
speed). What the service center rep notices was once a month Atlanta
would send a request for the file improperly and the request would be
logged/recorded but ignored and not brought to anyone's attention.
My N-400 Timeline:
* FILED SEPT 2001 @ Vermont Service Center
<<<<< (5 MONTHS WAITING) >>>>>
* Feb 2002 FINGERPRINTED
<<<<<< (6 MONTHS WAITING) >>>>>>
* Aug 2002 INTERVIEWED @ DO
Learn that my file was never transferred from the SC.
<<< (3 MONTHS WAITING) >>>
* November 2002
Finally, after hearing nothing and many phone calls later, a VSC rep
notices the District Office has been requesting the file and they've
been ignoring those requests.
<<<< (4 MONTHS WAITING) >>>>
* March 2003
PHONE CALL from District Office interviewing officer saying they
finally got my A-file, but they don't have my photographs.
Sent in photographs as instructed.
(several weeks waiting)
* End of March 2003
LETTER from INS officer saying they STILL don't have my photographs.
Sent another set of photographs.
< (1 MONTH WAITING) >
* April 2003
Oath letter arrives
< (1 MONTH WAITING) >
*OATH CEREMONY MAY 2003
Total Time FILING to CEREMONY: 1 Year and 8 Months [ 591 Days ]
No scheduled ceremonies at Atlanta for 2 weeks. A family member just
interviewed there on Monday. Interviewer said no oath ceremonies
scheduled for next week or the week after.. likely then that they won't
start up again until after the New Year.
I had my interview on Dec 6, 2004 and still waiting. Almost one year ago,
and no news. It's still pending background checks (the FBI name check as my
interviewer said). Most people are lucky to have their last names not
raising any flags during an automated name check process against numerous
FBI databases. Some aren't and their cases go for a manual check by a human
expert. That manual check line is a pretty long one and awfully slow. I know
people who are waiting for almost two years now.
I hope this is not your case. Good luck to u.

had N400 interview June 15, 2005 with 'name check' needed
sent 120 day inquiry Oct 21, 2005
so name check took extra 5+ months
I applied to N-400 with the condition of marriage. To the interview I
brought only those docs that they requested in the interview invitation
letter ( which were only birth cert, marriage cert ) . So at the
interview the officer asked me what I've got to prove that I am still
married, I said I didnt bring anything with me. So he checked the no
decision made box saying that I am lacking to show documentation. Only
if I knew, I have a pile of mutual bills, tax returns, etc. at home.
I think its not really fair that they dont mention what they request in
the letter they send b4 the interview. So is it like a freakin secret
hand shake?
So, it's been 3 months, nothing yet. So after a month I guess I'll have
the right for a hearing. Ha anybody done that? How long does that take?
Thx
