Is there a condition where one loses one's sense of a particular taste?
No joke, I'm serious -- since this morning I seem to have lost my taste
buds for sweets...uh, what I mean is that I don't seem to actually
*TASTE* the taste "sweet"!!!!
As a matter of fact, I seem to taste "salty"...LOL, I know this all
sounds funny, but I'm serious! I'm eating the rest of the Entenmann's
Louisiana Crunch cake this morning and it didn't taste sweet like last
night when I had it first. Then just now I'm eating my Lil' Debbie's
brownies and they don't taste sweet either! If anything, they tasted
very, very vagauely "salty"...weird!!!!! All I had after the cake
last night was salad and beef shish-kebob...I know sometimes one taste
"obscures" another (or combines chemically to produce a different taste
sensation), but I've never heard of actually losing a taste!
I can't remember anything like this at all, ever, before...I'm about to
head out to lunch, and I'm gonna see how it goes...I ain't talking
about getting sick of sweets, I mean that I can't actually taste
sweetness! Holy moly!!!
You may have heavy metal poisoning... heavy metal literally, ie.
copper, zinc, cadmium, lead, etc.... not rock band/metalica. What do
you do for a living, have you recently done any painting, auto body
work, anything where you may have been exposed to metalic dust/fumes.
Btw, they call those bands heavy metal because anyone who likes that
noise has their taste in their ass... you may have your taste in your
ass too. Also, do you smoke, and I don't mean just tobacco, any kind
of smoke. You do realize that taste is a sensory perception determined
in the brain... overdosing on certain elements will short circuit the
ability to discriminate between the four basic tastes... you may have
over dosed on multivitamins/nutritional suppliments, are you taking any
new medications, especially OTC.

Have you started any new medications lately??????
If not, get thee to a neurologist.

I saw sometime back that those zinc nasal sprays are causing
people to lose their sense of smell.
nancy
Which would explain a general loss of flavor, because
smell is a tremendous part of flavor perception.
But sweetness is one of the fundamental tastes.
Unless the guy has recently suffered a blow to the head,
I would guess it is a brain tumor. Has he ever had cancer?
Most brain tumors are metastasized from cancers in
other parts of the body.
Amen.

Well, right after my hysterectomy everything I ate tasted
salty and anything naturally salty like bacon made me gag.
My doctor said it was probably due to hormonal fluctuations.
It gradually went away over a week or so but every now and
then I eat something that I think tastes saltier than it
should and wonder if it's coming back for a visit. :-)
