The following article, it's been a
long while since the Daniel Darkes
mystery was first reported (a myster-
ious reversal of Insulitis Insulinitis,
Islit, due to what eventually was
called a mysterious gene).
No new information in the following
update other than that Daniel's not
needing any insulin has now gone 16
months and that he's been told that
he will be declared "officially cured"
if/when his not needing insulin lasts …
… for 24 months. Why 24 months? Not
explained. How his cure has happened?
Still, only 2nd-hand info from Daniel,
but no official explanation other than
a mysterious gene is involved, and
Daniel's heavy exercise may have …
… inexplicably combined with that
mysterious gene to somehow cause the
reversal. How? Still mysterious. If
it is or isn't repeatable in those
without the mysterious gene? Unknown.

Comments:
Is there any legitimate hope that
Daniel's mysterious gene will actu-
ally help anyone else who has any
of the specific types (11) of Islit?
Well, I'm skeptical, but hey, under
the 'anything may be possible' motto,
I suppose something about Daniel's
mysterious gene might provide some-
thing, but hey, it's been 16 months,
and no clue about a replicable way …
… to actually reverse Insulinitis in
those without the mysterious gene has
surfaced, so I suspect that the chance
that any will surface is slim to none.

Pro-Humanist FREELOVER, I got Insulinitis
(Islit) at age 5 in March, 1961 -- I use
a Dexcom G4 Continuous Glucose Monitor
(since October, 2013) -and- was using an
Omnipod Insulin Pump (since January, 2014).
However, due to losing my job & insurance,
I've switched back to using insulin injec-
tions on May 29 (regular insulin and NPH
insulin, 7 or thereabouts injections daily,
2 with NPH, the rest with regular).
Soon, I'll switch from the Dexcom CGM to
the relatively inexpensive Freestyle Libre
(~$1300/year) (started a 10-day test using
it on July 1).
