Two reports, one advising against taking
calcium supplements (unmentioned, the
fact that many calcium supplments also
include vitamin D) for men over age 50,
the other encouraging adequate vitamin D
intake to prevent Insulinitis in adults:

1) In the first report, a caution against
taking calcium supplements, for men
over age 50, who instead of taking
calcium supplements should get ade-
quate calcium and vitamin D from
food

2) In the second report, a caution against
insufficient vitamin D intake in young
adults, in an effort to reduce the
incidence of Insulinitis in adults

Calcium supplements did not cause the

Adequate levels of vitamin D during
young adulthood may halve the risk of
adult-onset ... [Insulinitis], according
to a new research.

The findings ... could lead to a role
for vitamin D supplementation in pre-
venting this serious auto-immune disease
[that's the overwhelming cause, insulitis,
-but- in a small minority, a non-auto-
immune cause is involved] in adults,
when the immune system starts damaging
tissues.

... Although it often starts in childhood,
about 60 percent of ... [Insulinitis]
cases occur after age 20 [that differs
from JDRF's position that about 50 per-
cent of Insulinitis cases start in adult-
hood].
