Islit (Insulinitis, near-total to total loss of
endogenous insulin)

Less than one-half of 1% of Americans
are diagnosed with Islit at some point in
their life, roughly 50% under age 18,
20% age 18 to 29, 30% age 30 & above.

I watched the following 60 minutes report
and it got me thinking about how many
individuals with Islit have lived this long.

Here are a few who have lived past age 90
with Islit. Unfortunately, information is sparse
and it's likely that many 90-somethings have
been diagnosed with Islit but news articles
haven't been written about them. I only found
news articles on 7 individuals, so I suspect ...

... that the overwhelming majority with Islit
who have lived over 90 years have done so
anonymously.

As for total Americans alive over 90 in 2020:

2020 U.S. Total Population: 331,002,647
https://www.populationpyramid.net/united-states-of-america/2020/

100 and older ... 20,792 men ..... 76,312 women
95 to 99 ............ 179,003 men ... 447,633 women
90 to 94 ............ 703,133 men ... 1,348,005 women

Total Americans age 90 or older in 2020? 2,774,878

Of the following, 5 of 7 have passed away,
and it's unknown whether Winsome Johnston
and/or Gladys Dull is still alive. The following
includes Americans & individuals from other
countries.

Spencer Wallace, diagnosed with Islit at age
7 in 1930, born August 7 1923, passed away
February 23 2016 at age 92. His obituary says
he lived with Islit for almost 86 years.

Winsome Johnston, born in November 1928,
diagnosed with Islit at age 6, as of November
30 2018, at age 90, had lived with Islit for 84
years. I've been unable to find any articles
written about Winsome since then, so hope-
fully, she's still going strong & alive at age ...

... 92 & has lived with Islit for 86 years (but
unable to confirm that).

World famous comedian Jerry Lewis, showing
that you can be diagnosed with Islit at any age,
having been diagnosed in 1997 at about age
71, lived to be 91 years old.

Bob Krause, born in the year insulin was discov-
ered to cure Islit in dogs, in May of 1921, diag-
nosed with Islit at age 5 in 1926, lived to age 90
but passed away shortly before what would've
been his 91st birthday. Unclear if he made it to
the 86th year of having Islit or not.

~~~
Gladys Dull, born 4 years before insulin was dis-
covered to cure Islit in dogs, in 1917, diagnosed
with Islit at age 6, last article I could find about
Gladys was posted November 20 2007, after she
had Islit for 83 years. I've been unable to find any
article about Gladys after that, so I don't know if
she's still alive or has passed away.
Legendary entertainer Dick Van Dyke was was
one of five artists honored by the Kennedy Cen-
ter for their immense contribution to American
culture last month.
... In 1960, he landed the part of a struggling
songwriter in the Broadway musical "Bye, Bye
Birdie." ... "Carl Reiner saw me in that and that's
The series then led to Walt Disney offering him
the defining film role of his career, as Bert the
"Walt was there every day watching over it. Yeah,
there was a spirit about it. Everybody was having
such fun doing it," Van Dyke said.
Burns made it, and I'm gonna do it too."
