The following excerpts describe the upcoming
Omnipod 5 & Dexcom G7 devices.

See the article for details of other devices from
Tandem, Medtronic, Eversense, Lilly, & Abbott
(Freestyle Libre 3 which remains a mysterious
device not yet approved in the U.S. even though
it was approved in Europe in 2020):

article, included in brackets]

...

Omnipod 5 tubeless system

... new Omnipod 5 tubeless insulin pump system
... from ... Insulet Corp. This will be the company’s
first closed loop system that automates insulin
delivery based on CGM data.

... It connects the Omnipod tubeless patch pump
to a CGM via a smart algorithm, allowing for auto-
matic insulin dosing adjustments [i.e., basal insu-
lin adjustments based on CGM glucose levels].

It’s based on the Omnipod DASH platform ... . It
will first be available to connect with the Dexcom
CGM & later with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre.

Omnipod 5 is also set to bring mobile app control
& insulin dosing, eliminating the need to carry a
separate Personal [Disparate High Glucose Condi-
tions] Manager (PDM) around to control the Omni-
pod.

Omnipod 5 ... had been originally planned for 2020
but was delayed because of COVID-19 & that didn’t
materialize for 2021. However, many believe it will
get FDA approval in the first half of 2022 [hmmm,
that remains to be seen, & whenever it's approved,
it's likely to be awhile after that before it's widely
available to individuals].

...

Dexcom G7

This latest model of the Dexcom CGM [currently,
Dexcom G6 is available] is set to bring a signifi-
cant form-factor change: a combined sensor &
transmitter design.

Here are the G7 details:

o Fully disposable. Unlike Dexcom CGM models to
date, the G7 will be fully disposable. ... there will no
longer be a separate transmitter with a 3-month bat-
tery life. Instead, the sensor & transmitter will be int-
egrated, and once the sensor’s run is finished, you’ll
dispose of the whole combined unit.

o Wear time. While it will start off at 10-day wear like
the current G6 version, the G7 is designed to eventu-
ally support longer wear for up to 14 to 15 days. No
fingerstick calibrations will be required, but that will
remain optional.

o Thinner. Dexcom says the G7 will be the thinnest
... of its CGM sensors yet at 60 percent smaller.

o Decision support. Dexcom has talked a lot about
wanting to integrate software features like dosing
assistance & information & prompts that help users
make better health choices based on their CGM [glu-
cose levels].

[For Omnipod 5 users, difficult to determine if that
will augment the auto-insulin pump dosages in any
helpful manner, or not]

In recent investor updates, Dexcom ... explained
that the company plans to eventually have different
versions of the G7 for different groups of users. ...

Dexcom said ... in late October 2021 it had planned
to file the G7 with the FDA in “a few weeks,” ... [the
article doesn't say the G7 has been submitted yet
& it's unknowable if the device will be widely avail-
able to end users by the end of 2022 or not].

[The after-insurance costs of the Omnipod 5 &
Dexcom G7, until they become widely available
or pricing announcements are made, difficult to
ascertain if they will be less or more expensive
than the current Omnipod & Dexcom G6 devices;
also, if one has current glucose levels < 5.6 with ...

... current devices, mysterious if the new devices
will be able to maintain those low HbA1c levels,
decrease risks from too low glucose levels, in-
crease safety & allow for fewer awakenings while
asleep to make sure glucose levels are acceptable
or are in need of insulin to lower glucose levels ...

... that are too high or glucose-raising carbs in food
or drink to respond to rapidly lowering or already-
too-low glucose levels. Ideally, the new devices
will have positive impacts on HbA1c & increased
safety & lower costs, but right now, those are mere
hopes, & only actual usage in each individual will
tell the tale.

i.e. In all the Omnipod 5 tests I've seen, very few
individuals have HbA1c < 5.6, & I can't recall see-
ing any tests of the Dexcom G7, so it's unclear
what the impact/import of those devices will be
compared to current devices (probably positive,
but impossible to know beforehand).]

INSULINITIS (ISLIT)

New SUPERIOR clarifying name for near-
total to total loss of endogenous insulin
https://prohuman.net/pix2/new_superior_clarifying_name_is_INSULINITIS.jpg

The overwhelming majority of Islit caused by
autoimmune attacks on pancreatic beta cells
(Insulitis Islit) but there are

o 15 specific types of rapid onset Islit, a
rare condition (only present in < one-half
of 1% of Americans & in a much lower rate
in most of the world), when present is typ-
ically diagnosed at age under 30
(50% at age < 18, 20% at age 19 to 29)

o 1 slow onset specific type, Latent Autoim-
mune Islit, frequency unknown but per a
recent report, misdiagnosed as Cellosis
(new clarifying name for type 2 diabetes)
almost 40% of the time due to its slow
onset and its occurrence typically at age
over 30

Old outdated anachronistic name for Islit is
type 1 diabetes, confusing in that diabetes
without clarifier is often used to describe
this condition which is 1 of the 7 Disparate
High Glucose Conditions (DHGCs).

That makes figuring out which DHGC is actu-
ally being referred to (and it can be any one,
or some, or all of them when the diabetes
or diabetic word is used without clarifier)
confusing / difficult:

https://prohuman.net/pix2/diabetesdiabeticconfusion.jpg
https://prohuman.net/pix2/diabetesdiabeticendingthemisunderstanding.jpg

It's estimated that 5% to 11% of Islit individuals
will die from severe hypoglycemia, the highest
risk of that being while sleeping (i.e., dead-in-
bed syndrome).

(pardon for re-post to fix annoying typos)

First off, Islit (Insulinitis, near-total to total loss of
endogenous insulin), the condition I've had for over
61 years (since age 5) requires exogenous insulin
to try to stay alive.

In < 1% of severe cases, pancreas or islet cell trans-
plants, which require risky immunosuppressants &
which rarely last > 10 years, can, in a very small per-
cent of Islit individuals, provide a treatment free of
exogenous insulin, but in close to all cases, the ...

... absence of exogenous insulin is temporary & in
almost all cases it must be re-implemented to stay
alive. Over 99% of Islit individuals don't have a trans-
plant, though research is ongoing for a better & less
risky cure or near-cure for Islit.

Latent Autoimmune Islit, slower onset but the same
treatment requirements as detailed above.

The other 5 Disparate High Glucose Conditions?

In response to someone who ignored the disparate
causalities, disparate treatments, & disparate risk
profiles of the over 90 specific types of 7 Disparate
High Glucose Conditions, see the following enlight-
enment that I first posted on August 3 2021:
https://groups.google.com/g/misc.health.diabetes/c/gkjn-dR7wQE/m/8u3NraSiAwAJ

First off, the word "diet", the particular "diet" the
poster I'm replying to implied was a 'cure' for all
7 Disparate High Glucose Conditions, refer to the
following, noting that only 1 specific type (Preven-
table Cellosis) of 1 of the 7 Disparate High Glucose
Conditions is involved in prevention, all other ...

... Disparate High Glucose Conditions are non-pre-
ventable and incurable at the present time:

Most Comprehensive Review Yet of Keto Diets

...

Five key findings of the Frontiers in Nutrition
review paper are:

1. Keto diets may be especially unsafe for women
who are pregnant or may become pregnant—low-
carb diets are linked to a higher risk of neural tube
defects in the baby, even when women take folic
acid.

2. Higher-protein keto diets could hasten kidney failure
in those with kidney disease.

3. Keto diets raise “bad cholesterol” levels for many
patients.

4. Keto diets are presented as a panacea, but they are
not likely to be safe long term.

5. Restricting carbohydrate skews the diet toward cancer-
causing foods. In fact, typical keto foods have been linked
to an increased risk of heart disease, cancer, Cellosis (the
Disparate High Glucose Condition present in about 95% of
those who have any of the 7 DHGCs), & Alzheimer's—often
the very diseases they are touted to help.

Your post about "CURE", that's scientifically re-
futable. All the claims about so-called 'control',
claims do not scientific evidence make, & your
failure to note that Islit REQUIRES exogenous
insulin to try to stay alive, an egregious error on
your part.

Jung / the book & for several decades Richard
Bernstein promotes low carb diets, my reply
refuted low carb diets (& all restrictive diets)
due to their high failure rate / high health risk.
Fans promote it but I dare you to find any scien-
tific evidence that any other than a small minor- ...

... ity are able to stick with it for a long period
of time (at least 3 years). And in case you don't
know, Islit is a lifetime condition, Islit requires
exogenous insulin, & for all the promotion of
low carb diets supposedly being superior, it's
all lip service with loads of claims, not science, ...

... not evidentially supported as long-lasting
in anything other than a tiny minority &, not
without its own health risks. Preventable Cel-
losis is the -only- Disparate High Glucose Con-
dition that has reversibility possibilities & a
wide range of diet / exercise lifestyles can ...

... help those with Preventable Cellosis, but
due to the inherent difficulty of maintaining
restrictive diets over a long period of time,
the overwhelming majority of those who pre-
vent or reverse Preventable Cellosis are un-
able to make that last over the long term.

or simply unwilling to stay on his diet,
or the unhealthy side effects & risks of
using his diet.

Quality of life? Arguably, if food / drink
doesn't cause you to get Cellosis or get
too much weight, the delights of food /
drink make for a much higher quality of
life than does a highly restictive diet, the
evidence is clear on that.

While writing this, my Omnipod DASH
pods which I ran out of & had to go to
a new doctor to get & for reasons un-
known, despite contacting my insurer
& asking them to ship it to me over-
night, they sent it Thursday & it took
'til today to get here.

After injections galore the past few
days I'm overjoyed my pods have
arrived.

Injections, I used them for 58 years,
been using continuous glucose moni-
tors & Omnipod insulin pump the last
8 years. Oddly enough, I had NPH in-
sulin that expired in 2020 & was able
to use it with my Fiasp insulin since ...

... I ran out of my pods (which cost
$131 after insurance for a 3 month
supply until one goes into the Medi-
care 'donut hole', & last year when
that happened, they cost $540 for a
3 month supply).

As for having Islit for over 61 years,
one hopeful sign (although the Islit
individual in the following got the
device that's in a 5 year trial because
he had severe hypoglycemia probs,
& I no longer have those probs thanks ...

... to my CGM & insulin pump) is in
the following articles. Unfortunately,
while encouraged / excited about the
gentleman's claiming a cure, upon
reading the article I discovered that ...

... "Shelton now takes 10 immunosup-
pression pills every day to stop his im-
mune system from damaging the new,
healthy cells. People with organ trans-
plants and stem cell transplants take
the medicines to prevent transplant
rejections":

Very disppointed in that, it's arguably
controversial to call something a cure
when it requires immunosuppressants.
Every other so-called cure that requires
immunosuppression is rarely long-last-
ing & often its removal of the require- ...

... ment to use exogenous insulin only
lasts a limited time, with exogenous
insulin re-implemented at different
times for almost everyone.

Ohio man appears to be first in the
world to be cured of Islit

A northeast Ohio man has a whole new grasp
on life while making medical history after the
successes of participating in a clinical trial.

... Islit has controlled Brian Shelton’s life for
more than 40 years. He was diagnosed at the
age of 21.

... “I was a mail carrier for 30 years, and I would
start walking up the street and then by the time
I get to the end of the street I would pass out
and start seizing right on somebody's front yard,
and I couldn't get up,” Shelton said. “That would
almost be a daily thing.”

He’s had an ambulance called for him hundreds
of times, and even passed out on his motorcycle
and crashed into a wall in 2020.

... The life-changing clinical trial

Earlier this year, they spotted a clinical trial by
Vertex Pharmaceuticals for patients with Islit. In
people with Islit, the body destroys the cells in the
pancreas that create insulin.

Vertex aims to address the underlying cause of
Islit by developing therapies to potentially replace
the insulin-producing cells that are destroyed. It's
building on work started in the laboratory of Dr.
Douglas Melton and at Semma Therapeutics,
which was acquired by Vertex in 2019.

In the trial, Vertex said the patient receives an in-
fusion of new cells — grown from stem cells — that
help to restore the body’s natural ability to create
and regulate that insulin, essentially giving the body
back the cells it’s lost.

... On June 29, Brian got an infusion of lab-grown
stem cells. He received about half of the target
dose. Shelton was the first human patient, which
is why he wears a shirt that says “first in human.”

... “Even right from the start, it was different already,"
"He wasn't up at 300 and 400 [blood sugar levels].
The really big changes happened around the three-
month mark. I mean, it was incredible. That was like
I think the first time I told him in the morning, I said,
‘You do realize you've gone five days with not a drop ...

... of insulin.' And he, back in the day he was doing
probably between 30 and 40 units a day.”

... Shelton’s body is now able to control its own insu-
lin and blood sugar levels. He still wears the glucose
monitor and checks it often during the day, but every
time he reads the number he smiles.

“It's one reason enough to just smile all day long,”
Brian said. “And I understand why my doctor does
because I'm part of him now. You know, he, he made
me a full person. Let me put it that way. Yeah, gave
me my life back.”

... he's like a whole new person and that it's changed
his whole outlook.

"He's happy," ... "He seems to have a clearer head.
We're not always just thinking where's your number
at? What do you need to eat? How much insulin do
you need right now? A normal person is like between
70 and maybe like 120 and that's a pretty wide range,
but those are good numbers and now he is in that ...

... zone and it's unbelievable. It's just completely un-
believable ... .”

This trial is still in its beginning stage. It’s a five year
study and will enroll as many as 17 patients with
severe cases of Type 1 diabetes. Regardless, Islit
experts across the nation are amazed.

... “We're all very, very excited about this progress
because this gives us hope that using these stem
cells and developing into islets, of which Dr. Melton
was one of the leaders in this development, that it
actually works in people and can provide, as we said,
a functional cure for Islit.”

[see above, he's on immunosuppressants, so this is
*not* a cure, & even though he's had positive results
thus far, the unknowable amount of time he'll be free
of exogenous insulin & the risks of immunosuppres-
sants prevent, in my opinion, this from being legiti-
mately called a cure for Islit. (opinions may differ)]

The book provides it, not me.

If you have read the book I'd be interested to know your opinion of it.
