I have received many messages of support from those that have read
my post on Arnold. Many are from those that know for themselves the truth
of what I say. Others are angry and want to know why. This is very
complicated but I am going to give an answer.
Many think that I must hate Arnold, I do not. If anything I feel
sorry for this man who has lived a lie for so many years. It must be tuff
to keep a lid on the truth of his life. I know that Arnold is brilliant.
In many ways, if I had been in his position, I would have done the same
things he did. The two things that I can forgive him for are the 1980
Olympia, and his fervent belief that we Americans are stupid.
I can not tell you how many young guys that I have seen come to L.
A., with dreams of becoming another Arnold. They have been chewed up by
the system and spit out. I have to admit that I am not blameless in some
of their pain. For years I was willing participant in this good ole boy
system. They came to L. A. , fresh faced and dreaming of making a mark on
this town. As time goes by, you see their enthusiasm change to confusion
and then self hate. Many have seen that piece of propaganda trash,
“Pumping Iron”, as well as Arnold’s other movies. They buy into the idea
that if you use your head and work hard, you too can become another
Arnold. They have no idea of the reality of the Arnold dream. They have
no idea how people in this town will use them as just another piece of
meat and dump them when the next great body and face comes along. They do
not understand that Arnold was the product of work of many people, working
together to make him what he is. They do not understand that he was at
the right place and the right time and totally amoral. All the work in the
world is not going to make up for that. Many succumb to the system sell
out their morals and begin a life that is referred to by the good old boys
as spinning. The majority however go home believing that they were
failures, that they just didn’t measure up. Not only did they not become
a star but they didn’t even make a scratch on the door. The feel clueless
and worthless. You can see the pain in their eyes. I could not explain
it to them because the would only feel that it was my way of convincing
them to put out.
Actually this whole thing has grown bigger than the both
of us. My main purpose now is to expose the media synergy that is
responsible for allowing and protecting this utterly ridiculous public
image that he has belt. I am still shell shocked that so many people
could actually believe that training can be as good as sex. It is
incredible, the power the media has over the minds of the ordinary
citizen. In trying to get word out on the Arnold lie, I ran head long
into the control of the media by gay power elite. They have positioned
themselves well in the small number of media conglomerates that control
our lives with social and political correctness. A story that has any
negative attitude about gays is impossible. Anyone that makes money for
the conglomerates is protected if they are on the A list. If they are on
the B list, they are fair game unless a gay issue is involved. Smoke and
mirror are often the name of the game if something can’t be covered, you
put your own spin on it. If some one like Elton John comes out, you can
bet something is being covered. In Elton’s case it was the age of the
boys he preferred. Even right wing homophobic Pat Robertson has been
tamed by his need to buy programming for the family channel. Shaqs bribe
taking to shave points at LSU is covered by his picture deal with a
conglomerate studio. If Magic was such a ladies man where are all the
lawsuits form the girls he exposed. Our trusted TV personalities act
amazed that Barbara Walters can get interviews with people that others
can’t. The name of her biography should be named “I married the mob, and
made them an offer they could not refuse”. Arnold was smart enough to
make a pass at her, and she was so smitten she decided that he was the
“most interesting man she had ever interviewed”. Wake up Barbara, he make
passes at all female reporters. He had a thing with the gossip columnist
at the star.
I want Congress to break up Time Warner, Viacom and the others.
News must not be the slave of entertainment I do not expect to survive
this campaign. Even if I win, I’m done. History will be much kinder than
my contemporaries. For those that think I want to go on a talk show, I
had an offer from a producer on Montel Williams but only if I lied and
said I had sex with Arnold. I refused.

So true, and I hope you continue to spread the word. I can't vouch
for all the details you give, but it is certainly believable,
based on my experience with the folks training at Gold's/Venice.
The people who are getting pissed off likely simply don;t know how
things really are in the bodybuilding world. Not a pretty site (though
I think things are improving in time, as bodybuildign becomes
more mainstream).

One could probably ask the same about posts on whether sex is better because
you work out or "who is your favorite bodybuilder" or calling Covert
Bailey a jerk or posts about breast implants. That is what KILL files are
for. All the posts to Lacy that *all* basically say "Get a life" or
"This is not the place" are just wasting bandwidth as well....

No, we just don't feel that misc.fitness is the place for tabloid journalism.

Think about the whole LA paradigm, the entertainment industry, and how this
is going to be true for all its minor appendages, too.

If you want him to continue spewing out this stuff where it doesn't belong,
then you're mistaken. The problem with his "exposes" is that they are
obviously not motivated by virtue, but by some kind of self aggrandizement
and paranoia, and many details are inaccurate. This doesn't help establish
the truth of what's really happening, but adds to all the deception.

First off, I lived on Strong's Ave. in Venice during the early seventies,
not far from the original Gold's on Pacific Avenue. Anything that happened
regularly in Venice I certainly didn't miss seeing. A lot of things
happened, but the fact that these things went on doesn't mean that everyone
there participated. Guilt by association just doesn't cut it.
When Schwarzenegger was competing in bodybuilding, steroids weren't illegal,
and homosexuality was still unacceptable to the general public. Now that
it's openly embraced by most of the media, how could such accusations be
harmful, unless it's another case of the false "outing" of a political
enemy? Lots of drugs acceptable before are now illegal, and somehow those
who used them when they weren't illegal are now being cast as criminals.
That's bullshit.
If you want to clean up bodybuilding (but that's not Lacy's motivation) then
focus real investigations not based on gossip and innuendo on the current
players. I'm sure there's plenty to go on. But maybe nobody's really
interested in cleaning it up, anyway.
I personally feel that all the stuff about steroids, sleaziness, etc. is
going to be the excuse for a backlash from a public which really doesn't
care about such things but needs an excuse in order to continue an
unparalleled gluttony and laziness, rather than taking care of their bodies
through nutrition and exercise. They used to say everybody who was
interested in health and fitness was a moronic weirdo, and this is just
grist for that mill.
Does this LacyR even train? Somehow I doubt it. And I'm willing to bet he
wasn't into health food or anything else very healthy, physically or
mentally, either.

Let me preface by saying that I have no comment on the majority of Lacy's posts.
I *have* heard alot of the Weider rumors he has been posting about. The AAU
stuff, the Arnold stuff, etc - to me, it's all hearsay. I've never seen any
proof. *But*, I've never delved into the matter and looked for any such proof.
I'd hate to believe that all the things he says about Arnie are true - but
if they are, I would have to admit that I wouldn't be too shocked.
But the one thing that I did agree with wholeheartedly were the above quotes.
Granted, I dare say that none of these sort of things apply to anyone in
this group - since there's very few people that I know of [ no, make that
*no* people I know of ] who both desire to be a professional bodybuilder *and*
sit around reading m.f. all day.
I guess I'm just rambling and wanted to comment on the misconception that
bodybuilders lead glorious lifestyles. 99.99% of 'em don't. And I believe
the cause of the problem is due to both the ignorant and myopic attitudes of
most bodybuilders and the greedy, self-serving ways of those who benefit
financially from them.
The system does suck.

This is true with any good-old-boy system. The people in control get
to decide who gets to join, who gets to advance. The people in control
are in it for their own personal gains. If you are an up-and-coming star,
the people in power will help you only if it will help them gain more power
and/or money. They will hurt you if you threaten their power or money.
This is just as true in professional bodybuilding as it is in your chosen
career. You have a much better chance of advancing if you play by their
rules.
Professional bodybuilding is different than some sports in that the bulk
of the money does not come from ticket sales or TV revenues. It comes from
suppliment advertisements in the bodybuilding magazines. If those in power
decide that you are not playing by their rules, you are not going to get
the endorsement contracts.
Once you've won a few local contests, training is a full time job if you
want to go any farther. Who is going to pay the rent ? Who is going to
pay for your suppliments ? Whats in it for them ?
