Anyone out there using a fitness machine called the "Body by Jake" Ab and
Back Plus? I've seen it advertised on TV twice and once in the Wall Street
Journal (don't read it regularly, though). It looks like something I might
like to buy. However, the more heavily a product is hyped the more
suspicious I become (the TV ads were loaded with hype). If you have (and
use or used) one of these I'd appreciate hearing your comments about it.

Hi Phil. Keep your suspicions. I admit up front that I do not find Jake
very appealing. I've watched his show on a few occasions, and I have
found his exercises scary. But, that prejudice aside, I've also watched
his "aba daba" and back machine. You don't need it. I will be happy to
send you an ab routine that will challenge the hell out of your abs, and
it's free. (Maybe I should start selling it and make a buck, eh.:) )
While I personally never owned his machine, I did once waste my money on
a gizmo called "the abdominizer". It hurt my back so badly, I ultimately
gave it away. Let's make a deal. I'll send you my ab routine (and my
stretches and back exercises if you ask). Try the routine for a month,
in conjunction with watching your diet, doing aerobics and muscle
training. If after, that time you don't feel an improvement, then flame me
on the worldwide net, and buy your aba daba machine. Deal? I am sending
you my routine under separate email, although it is posted in this
group. Let me know how you make out.

My roommate bought one and it's gathering dust. Interesting torsion disk
tensioning mechenism though. Seems like it might actually work but we
have three bodybuilders in the house plus one large gutted person (he's
the one who bought it) and it just sits gathering dust and taking up
space.

Now that you remind me I might just give it a try - the ab mode seems
like a waste (at least for a 200 pounder) there being insufficuent
resistance - maybe it would work for a smaller person. But the back
portion might be interesting or maybe as a cardio exercise.

I'll both give it a try and ask the roomate if he'd like to be rid of
it. You can E-Mail me an offer if you're interested in a barely-used
one.

I'd stay away from it. It looks like a piece of crap. Instead, I saw
something really cool on page 251 of the August 95 issue of "Muscle Mag."
It's a plate loaded crunch machine made, I think, by Iron Man(?) Magazine.
The cost is $300 with a 30 day money back offer. The number is
1-800-447-0008, ext. 1. This machine looks like it's a winner. Just my
$.02

I've seen this infomercial a few times, and in my honest opinion, it "looks"
like a piece of junk. It appears to be made from light weight flimsy
material--not solid enough for me. I've used inexpensive fitness machines
before, and they simply aren't pleasant to use. Your best bet is to buy some
expensive equipment, or simply do regular floor ab exercises.

I remember reading a review of at-home leg machines and the "Body by Jake"
thigh machine (I'm sure it has a catchier name in real life) was rated
extremely poor due to flimsy construction. Keeping that in mind, I looked
hard at the Ab and Back Plus. To me, it appears weak. Besides, Bobbie
Rivere was kind enough to send me what appears to be a killer ab workout :)!!
I'll be trying it out for the first time in about an hour...

Just me 2 cents,
