I have decided to buy some free weights and bench and a power rack. A local
fitness store carries Parabody and can order Body Solid. I was looking more
at the Body Solid power rack and accessories but the local fitness store
guy says that Parabody costs a little more but is much better equipment.
Does anybody have a second opinion before I drop down a bunch of money for
my ultimate home gym ... hehe.

I had heard that as well, but I would probably assume he said that since he
carries one and must order the other.
Both are the same 12 gauge steel.
I have looked at both and must say that I like the BodySolid equipment
better. It IS built in Tawain but designed in America and built to American
standards.

I have purchased both. I chose the Parabody power rack (it is AWESOME). I
also bought a Body Solid lat machine with a weight stack. Overall I find the
Parabody equipment MUCH better quality, however they didn't offer a
dedicated lat machine with a selectorized weight stack, so I went with the
Body Solid machine. That guy is not lying to you. Go with the Parabody rack,
you won't be disappointed. I also bought the Parabody flat/incline bench.
It's high quality as well.

I recently went down this road. I was in the market for a power rack and an
adjustable bench. Both the Parabody and BodySolid were what I was looking
at (also looked at TuffStuff but it was a little out of my league). I
eventually went with the Parabody because I found it to be a higher quality.
Really, there was quite a noticeable difference. The Parabody was very
solid, very well made, and a little bigger. It also had some nice features
like extra bar rests. I also liked there heady duty "pop-pins" - the Body
Solid ones needed to be screwed in to tighten them. Also, the Parabody bar
rests are "V" shaped so you can drop a bar in there and it won't move, where
as the BodySolid is "U" shaped so the bar can roll around. I like the "V"
better. The chin bar was also nore solid and the rack did not sway as much
on the Parabody. These were the biggest things I noticed.
In general you get what you pay for... which is why the Parabody is more
expensive. However, I find having some nice equipment helps motivate me to
use it. I love my Parabody rack everytime I step into it. I highly
recomend it.
I spent a good deal of time checking out both, so if you have any other
questions, let me know.

My friends and I bought a Parabody bench about 7 years ago for our "weight
shed". We have abused the crap out of that thing, and its still holding up
great. I think at the time it was 50% more than anything else we looked at,
but its been well worth it.

thx

Obviously the people who use Parabody are quite happy with the product. If
cost is a factor for you, and the Bodysolid is more economical, I have a
couple of Bodysolid pieces, and I have been very happy with them. I've got a
(I believe it's called) multi-craft gym, it's a bench/rack setup with a lat
attachment, 210 pound stack, and a Bodysolid leg press. Like I said, can't
speak for the Parabody, but the Bodysolid stuff is strong and sturdy.

If you are going to get the Body Solid stuff make sure it is the
better quality Body Solid and not the cheapest.
The Pro power rack for instance is much better for an extra $100 or
whatever it costs there.
The cheap one is smaller, has cheaper steel and the cross member on
the bottom rear is level with the back of the cage.
The Pro model has better steel, pop pins, square steel safeties and
the cross member is set back from the cage so that you can slide your
bench all the way in and stand directly under the bar more easily. It
also has more room from front to rear.
IIRC the Parabody is similar to the Pro model.
You should try to check each out for specs, slider manufacture,
warranty etc.
Realistically, either should do you for the rest of your life as a
home gym.

Thanks for all of the input and I am happy to say that I just spent my
whole paycheck on the Parabody Power Rack with incline/decline bench, leg
extension, preacher curl, plate load lat, 300lb olympic weight set. I am so
pumped to get back in shape ... six months until summer. This year I don't
want to be embarrassed to bare all ... hehe.
