ZMA and sleep problems?

I just started using ZMA (ordered from Biotest) at 3 caps. 30 minutes
before bedtime, just like the directions say. It's been three nights,
and so far I've gotten a total of 7 hours of sleep. Three hours the
first night, 4 the second, and I couldn't get to sleep at all.

Before you ask, no, I'm not taking any fat burners, under any stress
(except for the stress under the barbell!), nor do I usually have an
erratic sleeping pattern. Until now I've gotten 8-9 hours of sleep a
night all around the same time (12:00 - 1:00 am), and never have
trouble falling asleep (10-15 minutes max). It's just weird - now I'm
up at 4 am and I feel totally refreshed like I slept for 9 hours, but
then the day goes by and it starts to sink in.

Anyone know what the hell is going on? This doesn't seem normal, but
it's only been 3 days, it could be something else...

TIA,

... Chris

Dear Christopher:

Try taking it at least 60 minutes before bedtime, instead of 30 minutes
before. Some people have a hypersensitivity reaction to the vitamin B-6
in the formula. The B-6 enhances the absorption of both the zinc and
magnesium, however, in a few people, the B-6 seems to cause some minor
sleep disruption. If moving the time of consumption back by 30 minutes
doesn't help, then buy some zinc (30 mg as L-monomethionine) and magnesium
(450 mg as aspartate) and take them together, without the vitamin B-6,
30-60 minutes before bedtime.

Thanks Victor, I'll try that for the next few days. I was
supplementing with straight zinc & magnesium before I bought the ZMA
and never had any problems, so this analysis is probably dead on..

I'll let you know if the symptoms persist, and if they do I'll stop
ZMA for a week or so and see. (Too bad, though, I bought three
bottles...)

Take care,

... Chris
