Have any one of you had or know of someone that has had a bone marrow
transplant or can give me information regarding this matter?

A friend has Myleofibrosis and MUST have this procedure. Is there another
group I can get information from? Urgent please.

Thanks
IK

You may find information from these websites:

"Bone Marrow Transplants: a Book of Basics For Patients" A 157 page handbook
that explains, in lay language, what's involved in going through a
transplant, both
physically and emotionally.
http://www.bmtnews.org/bmt/bmt.book/toc.html

"The Blood and Marrow Transplant Newsletter" (Current & Archives) A quarterly

newsletter for bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cell and cord blood
transplant
patients and survivors.

BMT-Talk Home Page:
http://www.ai.mit.edu/people/laurel/Bmt-talk/bmt-talk.html

Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide - a worldwide registry organization:
http://WWW.BMDW.ORG/

From BMDW, you can find a list of US Bone Marrow Donors Registry
organizations:
http://WWW.BMDW.ORG/Addresses/USA.html

You may also search through the NIH webpage by entering key words "Bone
Marrow Transplant": http://www.nih.gov to get hundreds of cases and
discussions. Also the Mayo Clinic website can give you lots of good
information too: http://www.mayohealth.org. And yes, you shall be able to
find hundreds of related websites by searching through those search engines
such as AltaVista or Infoseek.

I'm a registered bone marrow donor for five years, but so far they haven't
found anyone I can help. The matching probability is very low (even from the
same family), but DO NOT give up. The registered donor database is growing,
and there are lots of new treatments approved for different cancers each
year. Just make sure your friend has a good doctor and a good hospital.

Best luck for your friend!
