Painting House... need help.

I am gonna paint my house here in the next week and I was thinking
of painting it tan/creme/forest green (just shutters and front door).
I don't know what type of paint to use or anything, but the Lowe's
guy suggested superior weather resistent paint ($19 a gallon). I
don't know if this is reasonable, also my house is about 1500 sq feet
and we measured the wall space on the outside to see about how much
we have to cover. For a three bedroom house 1500 sq feet of paintable
space just didn't seem to be that much. We figured it would take ~ 5
gallons of paint to cover that... sound right? Any other help or
direction would be appreciated.

Also, should I paint the gutters on the house? They are gal. steel and
I really don't like the sight of them.

If the gutters are a few years old, I would paint them with a DTM
(direct to metal) primer and paint. These are water-borne systems that
seem to last much longer on galvanized than oil-based primers, at least
here in the Inland Northwest.
