Making Marble Look Good

Having just stripped about 4 layers of gloss paint from a marble fireplace
I'm now stuck on how to make it look good. Currently it is dull and in
areas appears a rusty brown colour (the bulk of the marble is black). How
do you treat marble? What is best to clean and polish it with?

Many thanks.

As for the stained areas, that will probably be difficult. As
far as dull, that just takes polishing. First, wet sand down
any scratches that you want to get rid of (down to 600 grit or
so). Then there are polishes (really finer abrasives in liquid)
availble that you just rub the surface with. Then you just
finish with a normal polish. I picked up a little refinish
kit from the local home center that had the last three steps
and some polishing pads.

I would use Euro Polish from StoneTech Professional:

Give them a call if you need them to walk you through.

Gee, you wouldn't happen to work for stonetech, would you, or own the company?
