Our Main support beam is gone (6ft on either end) and really needs to
be replaced. (36ft)
Currently have a couple of temp beams up using telescoping posts and
pads (on either side of the main support) The temporary beams do not
rest on the foundation walls.
We are working in a crawl space with not much manuverability (sp)
Anyone out there have any advice on how do remove the old beam and
replace it?
Thanks in advance
John

Our Main support beam needs to be replaced since the ends are rotted
(middle 16 ft are OK). The main support holds the ends of the joist in
the middle of the 24ft span. Extra beams will be easier but not the way
to go here.
Currently have a couple of extra supports 1/2 way between the main and
the outside walls in order to quiet the kettle drum effect. We are
facing the need to replace the middle beam. Thinking about disassmbling
the main and rebuilding the ends after removing the rot.
Any hints on how to do some of this jacking (especially near foundation
walls) in order to take the pressure off? Our is good old brute force
our only hope? Guess we should start looking for a good drywaller too?
Regards
John
