Hi all,

Can anyone direct me to a source with instructions for backwashing a
swimming pool filter? We just recently started maintaining our pool
ourselves (vice a pool service). We've got everything else figured
out, but don't know how to go about doing a backwash. I've searched
quite a bit around the net and haven't been able to find anything yet.

I'd appreciate an e-mail copy of any responses...if it's not too much
trouble. I'll be checking the groups as I can, in any event.

Thanks in advance,

Michelle Sund

Hi Michelle,
You probably have a backflush valve which you unlock and pull into
thesecond or reversing position with the pump off. put a big PVC tube
or something on the outlet pipe, to direct the water which will come
out with a lot of force. Now start the pump. Evacuate water till it
runs clear. Stop pump, return backflush valve to original position and
retart pump. Bleed the air out at the top of the filter.
You will have to add back ca. 50% of the filter aid (DE) that is
nominally present, as a slurry thru the skimmer. Pressure should now
read normal.
