I need to paint the ceilings in my mobile home that are yellowed with
cigarette smoke from the previous owner. I don't know what kind of
material it is though. It isn't the soundproofing stuff that has
the holes in it and it isn't a regular ceiling that that is in a
regular home either. Each one is about 18" wide x 12' long. Does
anyone have any recommendations as to the kind of paint to use?

Thanks for your help..

In article <4b56dp$m...@cello.gina.calstate.edu>,
cwo...@cello.gina.calstate.edu says...
I'd apply a stain-killer/sealer first, then paint with a latex. Since
you're in CA, you'll probably have to go with a water-borne ("compliant")
sealer. Around here, Kilz II and Z-Prime II would be what I would look
for. Ask at a local paint store, they should have a similar product.
The MH ceilings that I've seen are VFB (vegetable fiber board, Celotex is
a common trade name) acoustic panels. Sounds like you have something
similar.

While your original posting is over a week old, I will assume that you
didn't do any painting over Christmas and respond.

I lived in a mobile for about 20 years, and painted the ceiling several
times. Depending on the effect you want, either a latex flat paint, or an
enamel gloss paint can be applied with a roller. I found a thick rough
surface roller gave better coverage, but watch for the splatter that
results.

Hope this helps.
