I have a need for a very quiet HVAC unit (music recording). I also want
high quality. Is Trane a good choice for this? If so, are there
different qualities in their line? What models are best?
Thanks,
John Bercik

Note that the unit itself is only part of the issue. Most
of the noise comes from the airflow. The key is to bet a
very low pressure high volume system.

The unit itself is a minor part of the issue. Most important is the
sizing and other details of the supply ducting. For more information,
I recommend "The Master Handbook of Acoustics" by F. Alton Everest. A
portion of the book is devoted to recording studio design.

Last summer we had a new Trane furnace and A/C installed. Both the furnace
and the A/C compressor are dramatically quieter than the 15 year old units
they replaced. You might try posting on alt.hvac to get advice from some
heating & air pros.

You will want to over size your ductwork, blower, and registers.
Then cut the blower speed down. The key is volume not velocity.
