To all,

I ended finding a small hardware store that, when buying a replacement
cartridge, they would loan you the tool. The hardware store happened to
be Ace hardware.

Thanks for all your tips, though!

I don't know what the M4600 is like, but all my Moen faucet carts come out
with pliers or a little cheap plastic box-head cap (fits the ears on cart).

Turn off the water. Pop the button, remove screw, remove knob. Pull
retainer clip, pull cart out by stem, or wrench it out with the cap if
it's crusted in. Replace O-rings, apply silicone grease, re-assemble.
That's all there is to it. If the cart is really eroded, replace it.

The last time I mess with my Moen cartridges (I replaced all of
them in the house we were selling - a total of five in 2 1/2
baths) the 'kits' I got included a disposable puller to use for
the job!

It was a plastic "thingy", as I recall and definitely nothing I
would have spent $27 for even if it was solid brass (which the
cartridges I removed were, but the replacements were plastic).

You probable could pull the cartridges with the careful and agile
use of the right kind of needle nosed pliers, but the puller that
came with the cartridge kits made it an easy job. (Be careful
about the way you put the new one is - if you do it wrong the hot
water flows when you expect cold - it's just the matter of a half
turn, which I learned when I went to take a shower after I did
the first one!)

I just replaced the cartridge in my single handle kitchen sink. I just used a
pair of needle nose pliers to get cartridge out. Don't see any reason to
purchase the puller. They want enough $$$ for the cartridge.
