CAI is just small fish. Look for the "money" for that is the *mother's milk*
of politics! The attorneys who are members of CAI use the "Consumer Attorneys
of California" (CAC) to influence, etc.

It's legal crime. I don't know how else to put it. They learn the law,
figure out what they can legally get away with, and this is the way they
make their money.

<< Chill over condos: Lawsuits deter projects, builders say
...
But the building industry hasn't convinced enough legislators that the
defect litigation is the problem. It's lobbying efforts met stiff
opposition from the powerful trial lawyers lobby -- the Consumer
Attorneys of California (CAC). The group has argued for years that
defect litigation would decrease if builders stopped shoddy
construction.
...
"I think they're just jumping on this affordable housing thing and
there's no relationship between litigation and affordability," says
Kelly Hayes-Raitt, a spokeswoman for a CAC-backed group called the
Homesafe Campaign.

Last month Homesafe brought a group of homeowners who have been involved
with construction defect litigation to the Capitol to testify against
the reform legislation backed by the industry. >>
