I noticed that it is impossible often to eliminate Chinese products,
should one so wish, from your purchases because often the package says
"Distributed by" but not "Manufactured by" or "Imported from". The stuff
distributed could originate anywhere.

I think they still have rules for showing the country of origin on the
product, but they are trying to obfuscate the issue where possible.
Spices might come from China, but the label says "Packed in New
Jersey" so you can't tell. That really tells me something when a
country wants to sell their product, but it not proud to have the name
of their country displayed.

You are absolutely correct. One company I know imports a brand of
Rhodiola (an herb) from China, and it is a real garbage product. No
effectiveness at all. And yet, nowhere on the product does it state
the country of origina. It appears to be produced right in the USA.

The "Pirate Booty" brand product that was just recalled for
Salmonellla had as its critical ingredient a contaminated component
from China, but nowhere on the bags does it say China. It is VERY
difficult to understand how this practice is allowed by the FDA,
