I find simply running warm water over them to remove particles that may
scratch the lens followed by wiping then with the polyester cleaning
cloths that are cheaply available for about $1 at Walmart, etc. It's
been several years since I bough one so the price may be higher, but
they last forever (or in my case, until it get lost). Every few weeks,
run it through the washer (cloth, not the glasses).
I just run them under the cold water tap to
get the dust off and dry them on my T shirt.
Throw them away - and stop reading - think of the money you will save on
books, newspapers and magazines !
Wet them with water, cold or warm, take one drop of dishwashing
detergent(not hand soap, or machine washing detergent), then with
finger and thumb rub the detergent all over both sides of the lenses
paying close attention to the edges. You can also make a solution of
dishwashing detergent and soak the entire glasses in it for half an
hour, then go to work with an old toothbrush. The objective is to
dissolve out any skin oil which has accumulated in all the cracks and
crannies. Then rinse off with fresh water, making sure to get rid of
all the soap. Dry with a clean paper towel.

For years, I've gotten out of the shower, rinse my glasses under the
bathroom faucet, and dry them with my towel. No smears, no scratches, no
soap, no chemicals.

They still get quite grimy even if you never ever touch them,
basically due to the skin oils that come off the face onto them.

I prefer to dry them with the T shirt, less loose lint from that.
Just wipe them with a lint-free towel, dampened with tap water. I have
been wearing glasses for probably at least 20 years and that's what I do.

I just breathe on them and polich with my T shirt. If they have actual
crud on them I use water and a bit of liquid detergent.

Its got chemical gunk in it.

That doesnt get rid of the dust, so you can
end up grinding the dust into plastic lenses.
> If they have actual crud on them I use water and a bit of liquid detergent.
I dont bother with the detergent, the skin oils wash off fine without it.

You mean like, um, alcohol and water? I would have thought that you
would be one of the last people on earth to be terrified of chemicals.

"polish" -- I just had to make the correction. Carry on...

Never been a problem. Long before the dust scratches them I'll have
stepped on them or dropped them lens-side down on a cement sidewalk.

My mother gets little droplet-stains on the inside of her glasses --
like one of those lizards that squirts <something> out of its eyes. She
cleans her glasses with alcohol.

Nope, its got more than just those two.

Not a shred of terror involved, just a recognition
that what else is there isnt great for a clean lense.

She's just crying about how you turned out.

She should be drinking it instead.
